percyblakeney: ...and apart from that Kramnik has a winning position, 5-1 coming up here.

   May-17-08 M-Tel Masters (2008) (replies)

percyblakeney: It's not as if Topalov normally wins at will against Radjabov, he hasn't done that in 5― years (+1 -0 =8 to Radjabov since then) and will maybe feel less motivated when it isn't in his own hands anyway.

   May-17-08 President's Cup (2008)

percyblakeney: Some sixth round results: Sokolov-Korchnoi 0-1 Guliev-van Wely 1-0 Milov-Najer 0-1 Abbasov-Naiditsch 1-0

May-16-08 Aronian vs Radjabov, 2008 (replies)

percyblakeney: Aronian's best option at move 39 would probably have been 39. Nxf5 Rxf5 40. Bxe4 Rf6 and even if a4 is hanging and black is an exchange up, there may well be ways to save the draw. 31. ... e4 is a nice move that gives white lots of things to think about with little time left. ...

May-16-08 Radjabov vs Bu Xiangzhi, 2008 (replies)

percyblakeney: It's interesting that engines fail to see 24. Rf7 (at least after a few minutes of looking at the position), but immediately after it's played they call it the best move. Radjabov has played quite well in general in Sofia, but some blunders have been costly. He shouldn't have ...

May-15-08 Van Wely vs S Rahmanov, 2008 (replies)

   May-15-08 Gata Kamsky (replies)

percyblakeney: It seems a bit strange that the organiser (VAT ZTO Prodexport) is contacted through a gmail address, and isn't mentioned anywhere on the Internet, but maybe things will work out.

   May-15-08 Loek Van Wely (replies)

percyblakeney: Draw for van Wely against Turkan Mamedjarova (2271) in the fourth round.

May-15-08 Ivanchuk vs Radjabov, 2008 (replies)

percyblakeney: 33. ... Bxd5 is a strange looking move, but by then Radjabov seems to have decided to go for the draw. With Kf7 instead it looks as if Ivanchuk would have been in trouble. For example 33. ... Kf7 34. Bxe6+ Kxe6 and black has things like e4, advancing the king, and using the ...

   May-13-08 Bu Xiangzhi (replies)

percyblakeney: Actually, the rectified list ends in 2006, so Kramnik's rectified rating was 2611 when he won the individual gold in the Olympiad 2006, but 2650 for July 1993. Kasparov's rectified rating for Linares 2005 is 2690, the same as he had in January 1983.

percyblakeney: I just played a blitz match against the mighty Lime (Computer) Three minutes/game, and I managed to reach +1 -17 =2 with this as my only success:

percyblakeney: Looking for a weaker engine than Lime I found one with the promising name Clueless. On the CCRL 40/40 rating list Lime has a rating of 2214, while Clueless is 2037, both probably higher than they deserve. That didn't stop also the latter from winning a dozen games before suddenly letting me win this easily a couple of times, 3 minutes/game also here.

tpstar: <percyblakeney> You have probably seen this before, but it might be new for some of your Scandinavian friends. This gets off to a bad start and just keeps getting worse. Be glad it's Finnish and not Swedish:

"How can I be sure you're not pretender?" lol

percyblakeney: <tpstar> I hadn't seen it. Fascinating... Swedish group Hep Stars had a hit here in the 60's called Sunny Girl. One verse according to the lyrics sheet, copied exactly:

She's domestic, she is property
she's slim like reed
She's devertin', she is faithful
Ain't that all you need
And I'm souring like a feather
in a world I've just created
for a very simple reason
that is one, she's mine
She's all mine

At least they didn't dance.

percyblakeney: The mighty Hep Stars with Sunny Girl, maybe not too terrible if one avoids listening too carefully to the slightly strange lyrics:

Apr-07-08   gus inn: <percyblakeney> Congratulations for winning in the Chessbookie-game ! Quite an achievement.
And on top of that , the reward goes to a wellinformed and very helpfull kibitzer. We cannīt demand more for a 1000 chessbucks , canīt we ? :) All the best - gus inn.

Apr-07-08   gus inn: And one ore word : I just loved the tune from the Hep star song .And still does.It is so gentle and loving. From the summer 67 ? , when I turned 14.

percyblakeney: Yep, this is music from around the time I was born. The guy behind the keyboard would be more successful with the English lyrics later (Benny Andersson of ABBA). Apparently Hep Stars sold more records in Sweden in the 1960's than irrelevant foreign bands like Beatles and Rolling Stones. :-)

Thanks :-)

Apr-26-08   Billy Vaughan: I like the name! I was an ensemble member in my high school's performance of The Scarlet Pimpernel, and fell in love with the music and the story immediately :)
