NJ--no rating. Favorites, Morphy, Marshall, Anderssen. Played a lot as a teen, then let it go for 40 years. Trying to reconstitute myself as a chess player.

Meanwhile, let this forum serve as a refuge from wild-eyed loony leftism. Here there will be no admiration for Hugo Chavez, Castro, or any of the other tin-pot dictators admired by chess players from the safety of freedom-loving Western democracies. Here will be found a premise that most of the nations of the world today are governed by Godless fools. Ours, too, unfortunately.

I was also going to say some uncomplimentary things about Queen Pawn games, the Sicilian and the French Defenses, Semi-Slav games, and a few other chess matters. But as those are purely questions of personal taste, I have chosen to leave them alone.

Since setting up this forum, I have also had several novels published: "Bell Mountain," "The Cellar Beneath the Cellar," and "The Thunder King." For more information about them (and me), visit my website, http://leeduigon.com/

Update, much delayed: my fourth book, "The Last Banquet," came out last year, and my fifth, "The Fugitive Prince," I expect to be published sometime this Spring. For book covers and free sample chapters, visit my blog.

Update again: "The Fugitive Prince" is out now and the next project is "The Palace." Editing is well advanced, but we're still waiting for a cover.

Update: "The Palace" is in print now along with No. 7, "The Glass Bridge," with No. 8, "The Temple," waiting in the wings. The first seven are all available via amazon.com.

Update: No. 8, "The Temple," and No.9, "The Throne," are now in print, with No. 10, "The Silver Trumpet,"due for release any day now.

  tpstar: <playground player> Happy Anniversary!

Maybe the local library can find a progressive liberal Drag Queen to read you both a story! ;>D

<Lee> On the topic of your 41st wedding anniversary, please extend my congratulations to the fine <Mrs. pgp> in Perrin style:

Great! Super!

On slogan, what about <The New Stalinism> or <American Stalinism>?

I think "Stalin" should be in the title because what they are doing closely follows their role model, even down to precise details such as what happens if you *do* apologize in a public shaming format.

After you do this, they tighten the screws more, not less.

Also, the "Year Zero" iconcoclasm, the desire to eradicate history by writing out anything you don't think fits your utopian vision.

I have a personal example to report on this one: In my local used bookstore, I was looking for <H.P. Lovecraft> volumes and couldn't find any.

I asked about this at the front desk, and they said "Oh we keep these behind the counter."

I asked "Is that because you are afraid you will be boycotted and shamed for selling <racist books>."

"No," they lied.

"He is so popular that people were stealing his books."

I bought all they had- three volumes. It is only a matter of time before HP is purged from school libraries as well as book stores. Next to fall will be Mark Twain, William Faulkner, and so forth.

Anyways, there are so many close parallels that I think <Stalin> just has to be in the title for their little project.

playground player: <jessicafischerqueen>It's true that HPL was not a fan of persons of non-WASP descent, especially in his younger days--before he married a Jewish woman and went to live in New York City. Stories like "The Street" or "The Terrible Old Man" make his prejudices quite clear.

To which we must reply--

"SO WHAT???"

These people need to grow up. They really must stop demanding that the past, which cannot hear them and does not know them, make obeisance to them... and to their own equally stupid prejudices.

If you're reading H.P. Lovecraft in hopes of acquiring racial enlightenment, that would qualify you as a putz. The man wrote horror stories, OK? He died before WWII, OK? If you don't want to read his stories, fine. But of course that's never, ever enough for liberals. They don't want YOU to be allowed to read his stories, either.

Leftism must be destroyed. (Better? [shrugs])

I'm not sure. I prefer <The New Stalinism>.

You know Ben Shapiro just calls them "Liberals" which might just be the best plan of all. It's clear he means the American Democratic Party and all who support them.

playground player: <jessicafischerqueen> I'm afraid "the New Stalinism" will just make a lot of people say "huh?" Too much ignorance of history.

Furthermore, liberalism must be destroyed.

<Esteemed Colleagues> Can I get away with this?

Nah...

I guess you know they've already started to take down "Little House" author Laura Ingalls Wilder. Not 100% approval of native Americans in her books for one thing.

<JimNorCal> Well in defense of the <New American Stalinism>, she is clearly an enemy of the state.

I'd be surprised if they haven't already dug up her tombstone and smashed it.

Their goal is identical to that of the Khmer Rouge: "Year Zero"

I'm glad I did though. What a great trailer.

I think any movie with <Long Chaney> in it has to be a good movie.
