**UPDATE: June 27, 2018. HAVE TO BREAK FROM CHESS AWHILE **

I basically suck vaj (FIDE ID:4111664) at this game. I have joined a few chess-related websites because I am hoping it will help me focus on studying chess. I will know in a few months if this idea works or not (1733 Gameknot). Update: Climbing back into tournament form after 3 years hiatus feels like starting a rusty locomotive on a broken track. I am working hard at it, and learning to be patient, but right now I am more entertained by my careless mistakes than by my victories. =)

zborris8: <diceman> Francisco Vallejo Pons got bounced up and down like a rag doll. Won millions in online poker, then lost it all for a deficit of thousands. Now he owes the equivalent of $600,000 in taxes even though it was all part of his gambling run.

My game against <keypusher> is teaching me that the one problem I have against strong players, is that they refuse to cooperate with all my bright ideas! :(

WannaBe: Your bright idea is tactics, his/their bright idea is position.

This is why when I look at GM's game, and I see like 16. Bf3 and I go why?!!?

I'm gonna play 16. Bf3 against <goodchessactor> in our game!

Sounds like his problem is what he did
to himself?

So this:

<Chessbookie treated me like Francisco Vallejo Pons>

Should be something like:

My wagers treated me like Francisco Vallejo Pons

<Do you have a favorite casino or card game, <diceman>>

If you're going to do a lot of it,
house edge would suggest:

Black Jack, Baccarat, Craps.

My screen name indicates the one I like.

English isn't my strongest language, but I don't think your correction makes any better sense than my shorthand. It reads
<My wagers treated me like Francisco Vallejo Pons had treated me.>

<<Do you have a favorite casino or card game, <diceman>>

If you're going to do a lot of it,
house edge would suggest:

Black Jack, Baccarat, Craps.

I thought that was it, but I wasn't sure if your name and avatar reflected something else - you could have been a fan of Ben Craps or the award-winning craps sci-fi story, <Gonna Roll the Bones> where a guy plays craps against death: http://will.tip.dhappy.org/blog/Por...

  diceman: <zborris8:

Yeah, I didn't know your exact situation and focused on responsibility.

If you had the same ride as Pons should
be something like:

My wagers treated me the way his wagers treated him.

<English isn't my strongest language>

Are you from Spain?

Apr-14-18
Premium Chessgames Member
zborris8: <diceman> I know that your message was about personal responsibility, but I think the casinos disagree. When I'm on a roll, they will suddenly switch dealers, as if the problem of winning and losing is their responsibility, not mine.

So it goes.

<Are you from Spain?> I am not from Spain, but Paco was on my watch list around 2010 when he threatened to drop out. But then he showed up for the Gibtelecom Gibraltar Festival and I watched Stuart Conquest analyze his game with Boris Spassky, who said some kind words about his strategic style. Then Spassky excused himself for a glass of water, but when he returned from the bar he was holding a glass of beer. Conquest said something like, "Boris, what happened? I thought you were going for a glass of water." And Spassky replied, "I improved my position!" Haha!

Conquest had earlier used the phrase, "A knight on the rim is dim." To which Spassky said something like, "Not so. A knight on the rim, and your opponent is looking for a tactic!"

See what you're doing?
They don't matter.

If you believe all that to be true,
you should:

A: Pick up your winnings and go.

B: Pocket most of the winnings.
Leave a small amount, and say,
when this is finished, I leave.

It is always about you and your discipline.

zborris8: <diceman> That's good advice. I could do most of that, it's just that streaks mess me up sometimes. How do you deal with them?

diceman: <zborris8: <diceman> That's good advice. I could do most of that, it's just that streaks mess me up sometimes. How do you deal with them?>

Well, there's only one bad streak!
(winning streaks shouldn't be a problem)

Like I said:
<It is always about you and your discipline.>

It would all depend on what you call "gambling?"

How often you go.
You're bankroll.
How long you plan to stay.
How much the money matters to you.
Do you up bet on winning streaks.

I've actually seen people bet:

1)$10 they win.
2)$50 they win. (they increased the bet because they're "hot")

3)$100 they win (whooo hooo they're killing it!)

4)$200 they lose!

Nice, they just won 3 out of 4 bets
in a game you're lucky to go 50-50,
and they lost money.

It's one thing to have a streak,
another to increase your bet more than the money you've won.

The only "truths" I can give you:

1) If you plan on gambling a long time, you must be tight.

2) There is little you can do if you lose money immediately.

3) If your bad streak happens when you have winnings, you should never give them all back.

4) Never increase your bet while losing.
