  Penguincw: < siamesedream: Nine... >

Thanks.

Dec-25-11  achieve: I posted Zerebukh's 4 wins sofar over on his player page, here's a link:

Yaroslav Zherebukh

Several are indeed worth replaying and analyzing... Big test tomorrow, when Zerebukh faces Tiviakov in the fifth round ...

Dec-25-11  achieve: Funnily, when I checked this morning I somehow didn't see the games uploaded, and posted a few PGNs - as now appears more than a bit silly - on young Zherebukh's player page...

In Dutch I keep translating, associating, his name with "Zere buik"... What a day!

Good evening.

Dec-25-11  Rook e2: I will start tomorrow in the 'Compactgroep'.
Dec-26-11  achieve: The "Compactgroep"??

What a name....

Best of luck, <Rook e2>, oh - are you from abroad, or dutch? Maybe you can ask what they mean by compactgroup to name a category.

Dec-26-11  zluria: I'm watching the game Tiviakov-Zerebukh now. Yaro seems to have misplayed the opening a little bit. Tivvy looks better to me right now (after 20 moves). Of course, there are no comp evals so I have to trust my brain, a notoriously fickle instrument.
Dec-26-11  waustad: Zherebukh leads after 5 rounds with 4.5. There is a 6 way tie going into the final round at 4, including Robert Hess and Sergei Tiviakov. Evgeny Romanov is the only 2600+ player not in the 4+ groups.
Dec-27-11  achieve: <waustad: Zherebukh leads after 5 rounds with 4.5. There is a 6 way tie going into the final round at 4> No sir Waustad, the Open A, B and C play a 9 rnd Swiss tournament. Four more rounds left to play until the 30th of december.

The Compact groups will play 5 rounds, which is indeed very, umm, "compact."

Dec-27-11  waustad: Ah. I assumed that since the site: http://www.schaakstadgroningen.nl only has 6 listed that they were all of the rounds. I guess that they add rounds one at a time. Oh well, I've been wrong before. In any case, many of the leaders have already played each other. BTW, it is interesting for a German to name his some Hagen. Maybe they aren't Wagner fans, but a kenning like "der Grimme" isn't one I'd like to live with.
Dec-27-11  waustad: Ah. I assumed that since the site: http://www.schaakstadgroningen.nl/f... only has 6 listed so far that they were all of the rounds. I guess that they add rounds one at a time. Oh well, I've been wrong before. In any case, many of the leaders have already played each other. BTW, it is interesting for a Germans to name their son Hagen. Maybe they aren't Wagner fans, but a kenning like "der Grimme" isn't one I'd like to live with.
Dec-27-11  achieve: <waustad: Ah. I assumed that since the site: http://www.schaakstadgroningen.nl/f... only has 6 listed so far that they were all of the rounds. I guess that they add rounds one at a time.> Surprise surprise, pairings!, dear wau!

5 rounds played, then the "pairings" for the next round are announced, which is hard <two> rounds ahead of time, hehe

- and yes you mean <Hagen Poetsch> I assume.... Well, Germany has a lot of immigrants (don't we all?), also from Scandinavia, which is where I assume the name "Hagen" originates.... Not sure <why> I assume that, though, and I'm no expert, just that I know of the Icecream mogol Hägen-Dasz, and the norwegian cyclist Boasson Hagen...

Dec-27-11  achieve: Well it seems names like Hagen, and the scandinavian Hakan, share an Irish and Gaelic origin, as revealed by my latest research.
Dec-27-11  kellmano: Games are on now. Curious that Yaro is not on top board.
Dec-27-11  LDJ: Another short draw by Tiviakov in round 6...
Dec-27-11  Rook e2: <The Compact groups will play 5 rounds, which is indeed very, umm, "compact." >
Indeed, we started monday while the other groups started earlier. 1,5 out of 2 now.
Dec-27-11  waustad: I guess I assumed that it would be stubbed out. When I think of Hagen I think of Gotlob Frick's voice and a spear in Siegfried's back.
Dec-27-11  visayanbraindoctor: Zherebukh, Rapport, and Hess are rising youngsters. It's pretty certain their progress is being followed by a lot of chess fans, as the chess world is always eagerly on the lookout for potential rising stars.
Dec-27-11  achieve: Hess, age 20 and weighing in at 200 pounds, can hardly be considered a 'rising youngster' - whereas Rapport at 15 surely is, and Zherebukh at 17 also qualifies.

But of course the definition can be stretched, as can Hess.

Dec-28-11  Rook e2: Benjamin Bok is also a youngster. Nick Maatman had a very nice start this tournament.
Dec-28-11  Beholder: <achieve: Hess, age 20 and weighing in at 200 pounds, can hardly be considered a 'rising youngster' - whereas Rapport at 15 surely is, and Zherebukh at 17 also qualifies. But of course the definition can be stretched, as can Hess.>

LooooL!

Dec-29-11  Fish55: Hess just turned 20 last week, and is dividing his attention between chess and Yale. That makes him a potential rising stat in my book - who knows what he can achieve if he starts playing chess full-time!
