Chessgames.com Chess Event Description
Yugoslav Championship (1937)

The third tournament for the championship of Yugoslavia was held in the Zdravilišni dom hall in Rogaška Slatina. Drezga left the tournament without justification after losing to Šrajebro and Nedeljković, and his results were deleted. The tournament was won by Najdorf, while Pirc showed the best of the local competitors and thus became the champion of Yugoslavia in 1937. Three prizes of 400 dinars each were awarded: the first one was shared by Koenig and Matvejev (the best success of non-winners compared to winners of three and a half points each), the second one went to Matvejev (the unrewarded one who made the most points in the last five rounds), and the third one to Vuković (the Yugoslav player with the best score against foreigners). Prizes of 500 dinars were awarded to Kostić (the most points in the last three rounds), Trifunović (the best game was his against Kostić) and Koenig (best success against the first three).

In addition to local masters, guests from abroad also performed.
