Apr-21-07  Eti fan: I truly root for Cheparinov. I think Topalov's success is at least 50% his work. He is a fascinating kid and deserves first class chess. Fantastic performances at Essent Open and Morelia Open. When is he going to be independant?
Apr-22-07  Eti fan: Great games today, but I do not see any mention in major chess websites. Mig http://www.chessninja.com/dailydirt... has a good mention and http://reports.chessdom.com/sigeman... has a round 5 report, but it seems this is it. It is difficult to want sponsors in chess when having no coverage. Even worse, a 29 000 eur tournament got a preview http://previews.chessdom.com/benido... and no mention anywhere. I dont think sponsors will be happy with that. And the field seems great. Anyways, back to Sigeman. If tomorrow Cheparinov wins he will secure the title. However, I believe that Negi and Tiger will not give up that easy. I would say Berg Negi is the exciting game of tomorrow.
Apr-23-07  percyblakeney: All decisive games today. Hillarp Persson was pawn down, with an uncomfortable position and a minute for ten moves against L'Ami, but somehow won anyway.

Chnebelgrind: <I would say Berg Negi is the exciting game of tomorrow.> Really a visionary prediction!
Apr-24-07  nikiml: An interesting game between l'Ami and Cheparinov.
Apr-24-07  percyblakeney: Looks like Cheparinov will be extending his lead after today's round.
Apr-24-07  percyblakeney: Negi seemed to be winning for a while when he was two pawns up, but now it definitely looks drawish.
Apr-24-07  timhortons: to bad id bet all the way for timman, id lost all my chess bucks but anayways id still admire the man
Apr-24-07  percyblakeney: The negative surprise this far is L'Ami, clearly second ranked in the field but sharing seventh with two rounds to go.
Apr-25-07  luzhin: Chessgames, please can you post the sixth round game between Berg and Negi. It is a Najdorf of some theoretical significance.
Apr-25-07  PhilFeeley: Negi looks like he's in trouble this morning:

(Cheparinov-Negi)

White to move. It seems to me that something is just waiting to spring...

Apr-25-07  jhoro: Cheparinov is pressuring Negi early in the game. I hope he takes care of the young tiger today and tomorrow finishes a great tournament with the old one. though if he wins today tomorrow he'll most likely draw against Timman
Apr-25-07  percyblakeney: Negi is down to less than seven minutes for 20 moves.
Apr-25-07  jhoro: <percyblakeney: Negi is down to less than seven minutes for 20 moves.> ... and the real Tiger (and Persson as well) has only 2.5 min for 12 moves
Apr-25-07  percyblakeney: 4:45 for 18 moves now.
Apr-25-07  jhoro: btw round 8 is here
http://www.sigeman-chess.com/live/r...

Tiger - Timman is/was very interesting as well. much more exciting games than the other drawfest going on today

Apr-25-07  percyblakeney: Timman's win means that Cheparinov secures the tournament win as soon as Negi's time runs ut.
Apr-25-07  PhilFeeley: It's finished. Negi resigned. With 2 seconds left!
Apr-25-07  percyblakeney: Negi was checkmated before that happened, anyway Cheparinov wins the tournament.
Apr-25-07  Eti fan: Very well done Cheparinov! He was leading the game anyways, but the checkmate gave grounds sites to remember the "fantastic" game of Kramnik against Fritz.
Apr-26-07  PhilFeeley: It looks like Negi has Hermansson by the throat this morning. He's probably feeling annoyed with the loss yesterday.
Apr-26-07  Eti fan: nice interview with cheparinov in chessdom

Apr-27-07  percyblakeney: GM Brynell's comments on Berg-Negi:

<Berg sacrificed a piece for three pawns in a sharp Najdorf variation against Negi. The first new move of the game was 20.Qd4 which gave Berg compensation for the piece but not more. However, a fatal miscalculation from Negi cost him the game. When playing 30. - Qa4 he probably missed that Berg wasn't forced to recapture the rook on move 33, but could play 33.Kb1 instead. After the superior 30. - Qxe4 there would still have been everything to play for.>

Apr-27-07  luzhin: Thanks,Chnebelgrind and percyblakeney. Actually, GM Brynell is wrong. 20.Qd4 was played by Luther against Sasikiran. The new move is 21.f5!
