Five chess masters were invited to compete in a double round robin tournament at the city of Paris, France in 1925. The participants were Alexander Alekhine, Savielly Tartakower, Karel Opocensky, Eugene Znosko-Borovsky, and Edgar Colle.   offramp: This is a very good format for a short tournament. 5 or 6 players, one of them local, playing two games with each other, one with each colour.

The Euwe Memorials, eg 6th Euwe Memorial (1992) were similar in format.
