Lasker - BCA National Masters 1892
Compiled by MissScarlett
--*--

Missing scores: round 1 game, Lasker 1-0 Loman; round 6, Jasnogrodsky 0-1 Lasker; round 9, Gossip 0-1 Lasker; round 11, Lasker 1/2-1/2 Locock.

Lasker. as second player, replied 1. PtoQB 3 to Gossip's first move. This defence, invented by the late Herr Kann, ot Vienna, partakes somewhat of the nature of a close game. It is much safer than the French or the ?? defence, and in this instance it had the additional advantage that Gossip hardly ex- pected that his talented opponent would take such ex- treme precaution. Being, however, so near to gaining the first prize, Lasker leaves nothing to chance. It cannot be said that Gossip treated the initial part badly, the opening being his forte. But in the middle game the superior strategy of Lasker began to I tell. Gossip made a temporary attack on Lasker's King's position, he having castled on the Queen's side, I but he soon bad to transfer his attention to his own King's side, where, ou tbe open King's Knight's file Lasker had massed his forces. It was evident that Gossip would not be able to withstand Lasker's attack, and such was tbe case. In addition to tbe open lile on the Kings side Lasker effected a breach in the centre, won the exchange, and advanced a pawn to Q 7, which could i.ot be stopped from Queening without further loss, and Gossip resigned.
