Introduction
The members of the Atlanta Chess and Checker club are deeply interested in a match between Professor A. F. Wurm and Mr. I. E. Orchard, which will decide which of these gentlemen is the better player. He who shall prove victorious in this trial of skill will be declared chess champion of the club. The two players are evenly matched, and it is problematical which will win. Both are in excellent form, and it is reasonable to expect hard fought, brilliant and interesting games. (1)

The match will consist of five won games, draws not to count. As the games will be played in the rooms of the Chess and Checker club, all persons who desire to witness the match are invited to be present. (1)

The room of the Atlanta Chess and Checker club were thronged with visitors yesterday morning. They assembled to witness the opening game in the great match between Messrs. Wurm and Orchard. there were present many of the best chess and checker players of the city, and they showed a keen interest in the moves as they were made by the combatants. (2)

The contestants faced each other at 11 o'clock. A dime was tossed up and Professor Wurm won the first move. ... (2)

At 1 o'clock nineteen moves had been made. An adjournment was agreed upon, and Mr. Orchard sealed his move and placed it in the hands of the Rev. Byron Holly. (2)

Play will be resumed this morning at 11 o'clock. (2)

The match for the championship of the Atlanta Chess Club between Prof. A. F. Wurm and Mr. I. E. Orchard was terminated November 28 in favor of Prof. Wurm. Score—Wurm 5, Orchard 3, drawn 2. The previous matches (1883 and 1887) also resulted in Mr. Wurm's favor by 7 to 1, 3 drawn, and 5 to 1, 2 drawn. Mr. Orchard's latest score shows that his chess strength has increased considerably. (3)

The match between Prof Wurm and Mr Orchard ended on the 28th ultimo in favor of the former. Score: Wurm 5, Orchard 3, drawn 2. (4)
