Suffocation Mate: The knight checks at e7, and the bishop covers the escape squares. click for larger view Swallow-Tail Mate: The queen takes up a position directly in front of the king, defended by the bishop. click for larger view Corridor's Mate: The queen delivers the checkmate on the edge of the board. Smothered mate doesn't have to have the king in the corner nor have the knight land on the 7th (or 2nd if black) rank. Also, in this collection, the checkmate doesn't actually have to happen, but it does have to be right on the next move. The king must be surrounded by his forces.
