The Schliemann Defence (ECO C63), 3...f5!?, is a very sharp line in which Black attempts to open the f-file for the attack, frequently sacrificing a pawn or two. Considered by many to be somewhat dubious, it has not been refuted and it is occasionally used in top-level play as a surprise weapon.

This variation was originated by Carl Jaenisch in 1847 and is sometimes named after him. Although later named for German lawyer Adolf Karl Wilhelm Schliemann (1817–1872), the line Schliemann actually played in the 1860s was a variation of the Cordel Defence (3...Bc5 4.c3 f5).

  8. Kolty's Single, Double, & TRIPLE KP Attack
... with a little help from his friends.

Georges Koltanowski (1903-2000), former elected president of the U.S. Chess Federation, was named the "Dean of American Chess". He directed every U.S. Open from 1947 until the late 1970's, incorporating the Swiss system to tournament play. (I wonder if the grueling schedule of the famous ARVO 1938 tournament that took a toll on the aging stars of chess had something to do with this?)

Koltanowski was born in Antwerp, Belgium and followed in the footsteps of Belgian great Edgar Colle. Koltanowski was on a chess tour overseas when World War II broke out; many of his Polish Jewish relatives did not survive the Holocaust.

Koltanowski lived in San Franciso, California with his wife Leah since 1947. He wrote a daily chess column for the San Francisco Chronicle for 52 years, an estimated 19,000 columns!!! "Kolty" was a popular chess showman, world-record blindfold exhibitionist, writer, and lecturer. His memorable "Knight Tour" demonstrations were truly astonishing!!!

However... he only does the TRIPLE King Pawn Attack while you're blindfolded. You'll never see it coming in time to prevent it.

    Thank you Gauer, MEISTERBRAU, etc.

P.S. Yep, the Triple KP Attack is a fabrication of Fredthebear that helps serve as a reminder to place quick punch outs in this collection. Kolty did like active piece play -- necessary for quick mop ups in simultaneous play against inferior competition. He also promoted the 1.d4 Colle Opening and occasionally played 1.f4 Bird's Opening. As a player of IM strength, Koltanowski had draws against Tarrasch, Alekhine, and Kotov among others.
