Chess Game Collections
[what is this?] --*-- [what is this?]

  1. Arranged draws
Selection of noteworthy draws which were agreed beforehand or tacitly early in the game. The most creative ones are highlighted with an asterisk (in case of similar games, only the first one is highlighted).

Notably excludes games between Anna Muzychuk and Mariya Muzychuk : https://www.chessgames.com/perl/che...

The "Immortal Draws" below are reproductions of K Hamppe vs P Meitner, 1872 which was not prearranged.

For more info on constructed games (as opposed to real ones): https://www.chesshistory.com/winter...

    22 games, 1964-2023

  2. Best puns ever
    Criteria:
    - The pun highlights at least one noteworthy element of the game;
    - It includes a reference unrelated to Chess, without being too cryptic;
    - The wording connecting these two concepts is ingenious.

An interesting game is a plus but not a prerequisite.
None of my puns deserve to be included in this selective list.

    36 games, 1834-2022

  3. Castle and mate
O-O or O-O-O mates: the header indicates the move for memo.

For castles that win without mating, see Game Collection: Castle and win

    15 games, 1850-2021

  4. Castle and win
O-O or O-O-O immediately wins: the header indicates the move for clarity.
Only includes games where castling provides a decisive advantage: it then ends or goes on for a while by inertia.

Excludes games where castling mates: Game Collection: Castle and mate

    29 games, 1844-2022

  5. Fake news
Interesting games that were actually not or probably not played: composition, analysis or hoax.

Many are from Alekhine: see this remarkable collection with the real games: Game Collection: Meine Besten Gefälschten Partien

    16 games, 1859-1945

  6. King vs King
The King as an attacking piece: crosses the board towards the other King and wins, often by threatening mate. Sometimes it is "pushed" forward by checks.

To limit size, excludes easily won endgames and games where Kings are not close to each other. The header indicates their final positions for memo.

    25 games, 1843-2023

  7. My best puns
Extract form the collection 'My puns'.
    31 games, 1759-2023

  8. My puns
Games for which I submitted a pun since CG deleted some of my submissions. As the philosopher said, "It's a small garden (in quantity and quality) but it's my garden."

I tend not to like puns with far-fetched references (e.g. cryptic quotes, relatively unknown persons or works, etc.) but that's probably to avoid exposing my lack of knowledge.
    NB: I don't capitalise quotes.

    135 games, 1759-2024

  9. Nobody ever won by resigning
A player resigns in a winning (sometimes drawing) position. The header indicates the most likely result if the player had not resigned: win or draw, but not the correct move in order not to spoil the game (for this, see comments).

The following collection also includes games not available in CG database: https://timkr.home.xs4all.nl/chess2...

    22 games, 1885-2019

  10. Stalemate swindles
The player with an inferior position swindles the other into stalemate. Includes a few games where stalemate is the logical outcome even if it did not occur, the actual ending being perpetual or agreed draw.

To limit size, only includes the most beautiful combinations (the header indicates the first move).

    34 games, 1846-2018

  11. What's in a name?
Combination of funny players' names (as opposed to a single funny one).
    Please disregard game quality.
    23 games, 1968-2015
