  1. Rivals: Tarrsch vs. Nimzo
    Aron Nimzowitsch, was born in Riga, Latvia in 1886. He is one of the Fathers of Hypermoder Theory, along with Reti and Breyer. He was supposed to challenge Capablanca for the title in 1920

    Siegbert Tarrasch, was born in Breslau, Germany on March 5, 1862. He is aformer WCC contender, losing a match against Emmanuel Laker in 1908, +3 -8 =5. Tarrasch has several contributions to opening theory, notably the Tarasch Variation of the Queen's Gambit Declined. He is also one of the 5 masters of chess of chess in the legendary St. Petersburg Tournament of 1914. Tarasch was also a strict follower of Steinitz Positional principles.

    These two men were two rivals in chess theory. Nimzo was the young, arrogant, whiper-snapper, whereas Tarasch was the old man, holding on to classical priciples
