Chess Game Collections
[what is this?] --*-- [what is this?]

  1. Amusing Games
    Oddball or funny games
    105 games, 1620-2007

  4. Games where check is answered with checkmate
As the saying goes, "the best defense is a good offense"
    8 games, 1850-2002

  5. Masters Criticizing Openings
One of the amusing features of chess analysis is how openings once ridiculed can became a regular feature of the chess world. The games below have notes by masters, grandmasters and even World Champions demurring openings that would one day became regular features of tournaments.

We should not judge these players too harshly, but let it be a lesson that one should not so quickly reject some odd early moves for there might be something there of value.

    7 games, 1834-1936

  6. Mate on 64 Squares (under construction)
Over chess history, mate has been delivered on each of the 64 squares that make up a chessboard. This collection will show the best example for each square. (If you know a mate for a square not in the collection yet, or a better game, please drop a line on my message board!)
    60 games, 1620-2008

  7. Queenmate
Anyone can catch a piece that can only move one square at a time. No, the accomplishment is to corner the mobile queen!

This is a collection of Queenmates. If she can escape to a square only to get forked with the King on the next move, that's not it. If she could run to safety if she wasn't pinned to her mate, that's not it. Only when she's attacked and all the squares she could move to are covered by the opponents' pieces is it a Queenmate.

    192 games, 1620-2016

  8. sleepyirv's favorite games
    117 games, 1834-2012

  9. Tigran, Tigran, burning bright
    TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
    What immortal hand or eye
    Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
    -William Blake

Some Tigran Petrosian games that I want to keep track of.

    97 games, 1942-1981
