HeMateMe: Where's my best mate Harry?

May-16-25  Schwartz: Shrimp assimilate oxygen through flaps just behind their stalky legs. They and crustaceans like their kind strike me as outward centered beings. Hidden in their caves, mantis shrimp spontaneously direct cavitations shockwaves after suddenly appearing. Quick sensing with sight and multiple arrange feelers characterize these creatures.

Slow water current action can be seen in coral and bryozoans. Their flower like tongues beat multiple cilia, drawing in food. Ctenophores must oxygenate individually in cells, and jellyfish diffuse as well. Now I want to talk about gills. Some worms have a feeding apparatus to absorbs oxygen when spread out. They could wave it around as a lure. I suggest early fossil fish possibly Haikouichthys, fed above worms.

Suppose larvae represented plant seeds. Here I'm thinking of starfish larvae who beat multiple cilia while feeding. What I'm thinking is they'd land in a safe spot and oxygenate with a bag. Nowadays, among sea urchin, starfish and sea cucumbers fission can be seen in starfish. I just wonder about their larvae - what constitutes success in their drifting in ocean currents.

What can be considered failure? How far can they get and why are immortal echinoderms armored so heavily? It seems to me crustaceans and salps produce more numerously in comparison to arbitrary fish gulpers or Echinoderms.

Stinging cells in jellyfish are amazing. Perhaps these cells were in a different form another ecological time. And it's interesting corals reproduce on a stalk. These colonies of individuals harmoniously develop each other generation.

Communication reliably occurs in familiar. Sharing food can allow high communication. In chaotic food webs, it can help young. A cooperative reproduction suggests a degree of control. For example paired birds, or colonial snails if there is such a thing.
