Apr-26-22 | | Luke Warm: I don’t want to mock typos, but have I read the whole thing wrong and there actually is a guitar-playing Clapton sister named Erica?
Just checking, just checking. |
|
Apr-26-22 | | Luke Warm: Either way, Sue Freeman, you rock!
I don’t—I’m staid and stuffy. |
|
Apr-26-22
 | | HeMateMe: Sounded like Vaughn opened for E.C., opening act. |
|
Apr-26-22 | | Keyser Soze: <I saw Jimmy Vaughn at the Hard Rock ( He was the lead to Erica Clapton), and I swear if I closed my eyes he would be Buddy Guy> I saw Jimmy as well over here, long time ago.
Buddy Guy as well. Good times. |
|
Apr-26-22 | | Luke Warm: HMM,
Yes, but it’s achingly possible to imagine Vaughn on lead to Clapton’s rhythm. |

Apr-26-22 | | diceman: <Luke Warm:
But that means Clapton played a restaurant.> Did you hear when:
Archie Bell & The Drells
played a Taco Bell? |
|
Apr-26-22 | | diceman: <Susan Freeman: Now I do housework listening to songs I used to go out drinking to. Maybe we can call that maturity?> Just drink while doing housework.
Problem solved! |
|
Apr-26-22 | | Z free or die: Let's take quick note of the risks this may involve... This guy used to drink on the job too:

Apr-26-22 | | diceman: <Luke Warm: I don’t want to mock typos, but have I read the whole thing wrong and there actually is a guitar-playing Clapton sister named Erica?> Erica wasn't in Cream.
Who'd want to see her? |

Apr-26-22 | | diceman: <Luke Warm: Here look: a former gang member lets a kid wannabe know ‘You don’t want this.’> Gang member looks like gang member.
Kid looks like the chubby kid, football team picks on! |

Apr-26-22 | | Z free or die: Sometimes?!! |
|
Apr-26-22 | | Z free or die: Speaking of working (gonna a couple more free minutes)... Here's one of my most favorite songs - it's obviously connected with the Altamont tragedy, but do you know how? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm_...
Why is it my favorite? Of course the music, singing, etc. - but mostly because of this one lyric: <Now I don't know but I been told
it's hard to run with the weight of gold
Other hand I heard it said
it's just as hard with the weight of lead> They're all good, let's add this "one way or another": <You can't overlook the lack Jack
of any other highway to ride
It's got no signs or dividing lines
and very few rules to guide>
. |
|
Apr-26-22
 | | saffuna: <Do you know how?> Just that it's a reflection on what happened at the Altamont free concert. The song came out about six months afterward. |
|
Apr-26-22 | | Z free or die: <saff> In the words of <Missy> "do better". In other words, it's definitely connected - Speedway is the first obvious clue. Check it out or wait, I'll post a little more tonight (or tomorrow). |

Apr-26-22
 | | saffuna: I think they are sort of saying "Stuff happens," don't be too harsh on those responsible. That show had been moved to Altamont just three or four days earlier. The setup wasn't very good, the stage way too low. Then the Hells Angels were lined up front with their motorcycles in front of the stage, trouble waiting to happen. I believe the Grateful Dead were responsible for bringing in the Hells Angels, so might be a little defensive about that. That's speculation. |
|
Apr-26-22 | | Keyser Soze: <I believe the Grateful Dead were responsible for bringing in the Hells Angels, so might be a little defensive about that. That's speculation.> I read a Sonny Barger bio and he stated that it was all Jagger ego-trip, or the group idea for that matter (they thought it would appear cool or whatever). But Im not sure .. |
|
Apr-26-22
 | | saffuna: Well, maybe. But Jagger most likely did not know any Hells Angels. Someone had to get in touch with them. |
|
Apr-26-22 | | cormier: <<April 27, 2022> Today I invite you that each of you begin again to love, in the first place, God who saved and redeemed each of you, and then brothers and sisters in your proximity.> |
|
Apr-26-22
 | | HeMateMe: who was the actual promoter of the Altamont show? I mean, who was it that was paying the bands? I would assume that person had to sign off on the idiocy of bringing in a biker gang to provide 'security' at an event where the customers are drinking and smoking dope. |
|
Apr-26-22
 | | saffuna: I believe the band managers organized it. It was a free concert, so nobody was paid. The Hells Angels were paid in beer. There were many problems, but a big one was the long wait after the previous band (CSNY) finished playing. People were getting irritated and were pushing forward, so there was some tension. Turned out the Rolling Stones wanted to use their lights, so they just waited until it got dark. |
|
Apr-26-22
 | | HeMateMe: didn't the Jeff Airplane get interrupted? The Hells Angels actually grabbed Marty Balin for some reason and wouldn't release him? |
|
