Chessical: Yet another example of Chigorin's creative heritage. He is one of the greatest chess thinkers, and here he anticipates the Pirc Defence Classical System.

29.Bxe7? R8c6 30.Bf1 Bxg4

Chigorin bankrolled chess magazines and clubs out of his own resources in Russia. The strain of constent writing, researching, popularizing chess, obtaining funds and earning his living from tournament play was very heavy. He descended into alcoholism, but even at the end (he died in 1908) he was still introducing profound and important ideas. In his last tournaments he lacked the power to get the full rewards of his work. It is rumoured that he burnt his chess pieces just before his death.
