Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-07-05  Phoenix JS: Queen is lost. However Black can gain a Rook by playing 15. ...Bd8 16. Nb4! followed by 16. ...Qb6+ 17. Nxb6 Bxb6 then 18.Kh1 Nf2+ parried by 19. Rxf2 Bxf2

But when looking at the end game it seems it will be very hard for black to hold back the queenside pawnstorm, because the center, backranks(file 7-8) and especially the f7-square will require much attention from black.

Nevertheless i think he should have played on, hoping for a blunder or something :-)

Apr-07-09  BraveUlysses: A truly Shakespearean encirclement of Her Majesty- but she can be saved, if with a lost game:

If she tries:
15...♕c6 16.♘xe7+ wins her
15...b6 16.♘xd6 ♕a5 17.♘b7 and she is trapped again

or the best try, 16...b5:

(16.♘c7? ♕b7 17.♘xa8 bxc4 18.♗f3 ♘c6 or 16.♘b4 ♕a7, both let black off the hook)

16.♘xf7+ ♔h1 17.♘xd6 ♕b6+ 18.♔h1 ♘f2+ 19.♖xf2 ♕xf2 {16.axb Qxb5 17.Nxe7+ Kh8 18.Nxd6 Qc5+
16.axb Qb7{ (16...♕c8 17.♘xe7 forks K and Q) 17.♘xe7+ ♔h8 18.♘xd6 ♕b6+

all of which lead to 19.♔h1 ♘f7+ 20.♖xf2 ♕xf2 20.♗f3! wins the QR as the KR cannot move, lest ♘xf7#

Jul-10-10  Whitehat1963: What about 15...Bd8 to save the queen?
Jul-10-10  CapablancaFan122: <Whitehat> 15..Bd8 16.Ne5 Bb6+ 17.Kh1 Qa5 18.b4 wins the Queen.
Jul-10-10  uscfratingmybyear: 15...Bd8 can be met by 16.Ktb4.
