Chessical: Cutting edge theory for the time. The Breyer Variation became popular in the late 1950's

Viacheslav Ragozin later improved on Filip's defence with: <20...Nc5> 21.Bc2 b3 22.Bxh7+ Kxh7 23.Rxe7 Ne6 24.Ng5+ Nxg5 25.Bxg5 Qd8 =

Shamkovich vs Ragozin, 1957

Mar-31-06  Resignation Trap: Black's 34th move (34...Nc2) leaves a bad impression, but his other possibilities are no better:

a) 34...Nc6 35.Nxc6 Qxc6 36. Rxc4!

b) 34...Kf8 35.Ne3 and White threatens 36.Rcd1 c3 37.bxc3 Qxc3 38.Nexd5

c) 34...Nb5 35.Nxd5! Rxd5 36.Rxd5 Qxd5 37.Bxc4

Mar-31-06  dakgootje: an exciting opening, long since i saw this opening and even longer since i saw a game with this or around these first 18 opening moves. Would black have been better if it would have activated its rook and queen sooner after trading of whites queen?
