Honza Cervenka: Spassky sacrificed an exchange and won the the game in an interesting ending. I am not sure whether black resigned or exceeded time limit in the final position, but he is lost there although he has a Rook against three Pawns. The game could have continued 58.Rxd3 Rxd3 59.f7 Rd1 (59...Rd8 60.Ke5 Kd7 61.Kf6 Ra8 62.e5 etc. is not better.) 60.Ke5 Rf1 61.Ke6 Kd8 62.a4 and the Rook cannot stop all white Pawns.
Mar-17-04  caballos2: The connected pawns are indeed stronger than the rook: 58.Rxd3 Rxd3 59.f7 Rd2 60.Ke5 Rf2 61.Ke6 Kd8 62.a4 and then Rf4 63.e5 Rf5 64.a5 Kc7 65.Ke7 Rxe5+ 66.Kf6 Rxa5 67.Kxg6 Ra8 68.Kg7 Rd8 69.f8D is slaughter.
Feb-24-19  edubueno: Muy Buena Partida de Spassky!
Jun-22-24  edubueno: If 17...Nxc3?? 18. Bxh7+ Kxh7 19. Qh5+ Kg8 20. g6 and white wins
