Honza Cervenka: Anybody can have a bad day, and this time it was Vaganian's turn. After a bit dubious chioce in the opening (5.e5?! instead of natural 5.Qe2 or 5.Nc3) he sacrificed or lost a Pawn getting not much for that, and in already clearly worse position he just drops a piece by 23.Nb5? instead of 23.Nfe2. 34.Kf2 was a blunder, the King should go to f1, though black was probably winning anyway.

Nov-08-23  mel gibson: I saw that straight away however Stockfish 16 chose a slightly different line:

32. .. Rg8

(32. .. Rg8 (Rf8-g8 b4xc5 Ne5xf3+ Kg1-f1 Nf3xh4 Rd4xh4 Rg8xg2 Ba2-b1+ Kh7-g7 Bb1-e4 Bb7xe4 Re1xe4 Rg2-b2 c5xb6 c7xb6 Re4-e3 Ra8-c8 Re3-e2 Rc8-c1+ Kf1-f2 Rb2xe2+ Kf2xe2 b6-b5 Rh4-h3 ) +4.88/49 454)

score for Black +4.88 depth 49.

if I force SF to follow the text move it is about the same strength:

32. .. Nxf3+

33. gxf3 (33. gxf3 {(g2xf3 Rf8-g8+ Kg1-f1 Bb7-a6+ Ba2-c4 Ba6xc4+ Kf1-f2 Qc5-f5 Rd4xc4 Ra8xa3 Qh4-e4 Ra3-a2+ Kf2-e3 Qf5xe4+ f3xe4 Rg8-c8 Re1-f1 Kh7-g7 h2-h4 c7-c5 Ke3-f4 Ra2-a4 Kf4-e5 Ra4xb4 Rc4-c3 f7-f6+ Ke5xe6 Rb4xe4+ Ke6-d7 Rc8-e8 Rc3-g3+ Kg7-f7 h4-h5 ) -4.45/47 509)

score for White -4.45 depth 47.

al wazir: After 23...gxf4, black is a piece up. Game over. But white played on "a few more moves."

After 30. Rd4, as black I would have attacked the pinned ♖ with 30...e5. Now if 31. b4, then 31...axb4 32. Bb1+ f5 33. axb4 (33. cxb4 Qxd4+) Qc6.

Nov-09-23  Brenin: <al wazir: After 30. Rd4, as black I would have attacked the pinned ♖ with 30...e5. Now if 31. b4, then 31...axb4 32. Bb1+ f5 33. axb4 (33. cxb4 Qxd4+) Qc6.> Now 34 Qe7+ Kh8 35 Rxd7 wins for White, e.g. 35 ... Qg6 36 Qxe5+ Rf6 37 Kf2. Black's e-pawn has to stay on e6, so that Bb1+ can be answered with f5

  al wazir: <Brenin>: 35...Rf6 isn't black's only move.

What happens after 36...Kg8 ? If 37. Qxc7/Rxc7, then 37...Bxf3. If 37. Bd3, preparing 38. Bb4+. then 37...Ba6.
