Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-04-10  Ychromosome: Carlsen trebled on the f-file and eventually captured the bishop on g7, but still lost; did he miss something?
Jan-22-10  RsMLuchia: well, in my opinion, he lost a knight =p

HeMateMe: He was playing in his country's national championship at age 11.
May-11-16  Sergash: Miellet-Bensan is a French player born in 1976, so he was 24 or 25 years old when he played this game. Despite his rating of 2243 at the time of the game (which has been his highest ever achieved, if I am not mistaken), he never obtained any FIDE title. We could still consider him a Candidate Master (CM).

I checked the game with the program Stockfish 7 - 64 bits POPCNT.

The first mistake I found is <13...Bxd5? 14.cxd5! > 13...bxc4! 14.Nxc4 0-0 15.Ndb6 Rb8 = Frans Kuijpers (2430) vs Gert Ligterink (2400), 31st Nederland Cha,pionship 1976 in Leeuwarden, round 9, draw.

<16.Nc2 Nxf5 > Aparently no one ever thought about 16.f6! Bxf6 17.Nc2! as indicated by the computer.

The theoritical novelty of the game was <17.Qe2N Ne7!>. Before that there was 17.Bxf5 Qxf5 18.Ne3 Qg6! = / Alfredo Gustavo Giaccio (2370) vs Gerardo Bazan, Mar del Plata Open (Argentina) 1992, round 8, 1-0.

<20.f4?! exf4! = > Carlsen missed the powerful 20.Rg4! Qh6! 21.Rg3 .

May-11-16  Sergash: <21...Ng6!> Black is right to avoid capturing the white pawn on d5 as shown in the following variations :

A) 21...Nxd5?? 22.Qe4! with the double threat of mate on h7 and winning the black knight with Rf4-f5.

B) 21...Qxd5?! 22.Ne3! (22.Bc4?! is not working on account of 22...Qc5+ 23.Kh1 d5! =) Qc5!

<31.Rg4?! Qxb2 > Carlsen miscalculated here. 31.Qxd3! Qb5 (or 31...Qxb2 32.Ne3! =) 32.Qf3 =

<33.Rxg7?? Qxd4 > Terrible mistake. Due to time pressure? The only move here was 33.Qxd3 Bxd4! 34.Qxd4+! Qxd4 35.Rxd4

<34.Rgxf7?> After this move, Black could have announced a Mate in 15 moves! 34.Rg4 Qxd5 35.Qh4 but Black is still winning.

After that, Black did not always play the best move or the fastest mate, but still did not leave any chance for Carlsen to come back in the game.
