Dec-21-02 | | skakmiv: typical Karpov game. |

Dec-21-02 | | mdorothy: Kasparov is losing somethin, man... maybe hes just getting old. hehehe |
Dec-22-02 | | skakmiv: I thought that Karpov was getting old? :) |

Dec-22-02 | | skakmiv: 21.Ne1!? was nice. |

Sep-25-03 | | mack: When was the last time Kasparov actually won a game? |
Sep-25-03 | | AdrianP: He won 5 out of 6, just this week...! ... the other game was a draw. See http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail... for details. I wouldn't write the hairy Azerbhajini off yet. |
Sep-25-03 | | mack: Well, okay, I was being a bit silly there, but it does seem he is losing knack somewhat (probably better than me though) |
Aug-06-04 | | azaris: So this is how you beat Kasparov - take his pawns and don't give them back! |
Aug-06-04 | | Zenchess: Kramnik employed a similar strategy in the 2nd game of his match with Kasparov. |
Aug-06-04 | | chobbiblunt: Kasparov is a legend, but he is also human. |
Jul-21-05 | | who: Give him a break. This was rapid. |
Apr-27-06 | | Dionyseus: Kasparov was never a good rapid player, sort of like Topalov in that respect. Karpov and Kramnik on the other hand are excellent rapid players. |
Jul-04-06 | | RookFile: As soon as you see Karpov get the active rook in this endgame, it's game over. (22. Rd7) |

Jul-22-06 | | Sacred Knight: <s4life: s4life: <who: Give him a break. This was rapid.>
Oh so Karpov got lucky? nonsense... classical results between these two is pretty even.> Yes, they played great games, but Kasparov still has a good advantage, based on Chessgames, counting rapid games, Kasparov won 29 and lost 23, and there were 138 draws.
<Dionyseus> Although Kasparov can't be considered the best rapid player, he is a very good one. For example, Kramnik has advantage over kasparov in classical games, but, if you consider rapid and blitz games, Kasparov is better than Kramnik, I mean, at least against him. |
Jul-23-06 | | s4life: <Sacred> I don't have the info at hand but I am pretty sure I've read their head to head score in classical was +1 in Kasparov's favor... that after more than 100 games should be more than an argument to imply that Kasparov wasn't really a more skilled chess player than Karpov... he is younger though, and because of that he got the edge in tedious, long matches. |
Jul-23-06 | | percyblakeney: <an argument to imply that Kasparov wasn't really a more skilled chess player than Karpov ... he is younger though, and because of that he got the edge> It's worth pointing out that most of the games between Kasparov and Karpov were played several years before Kasparov turned 25. Kasparov's results against Karpov were better when he got closer to his peak, even if it's of course undeniable that Karpov was an extremely strong player. |
Jul-23-06 | | s4life: <percyblakeney : Kasparov and Karpov were played several years before Kasparov turned 25. Kasparov's results against Karpov were better when he got closer to his peak> Well, Kasparov's peak was in 1990, when he was 28. Karpov was already 40 y.o.... but even then, in their last two matches (1987, 1990), Kasparov could only get a +1 score in 48 games, hardly different to their overall result from their first 2 matches (when Kasparov was younger than 25).
Anyway, Kasparov has always had enormous trouble facing players like Karpov and Kramnik... it must their style. I think if Karpov would've had the youth of Kramnik or the stamina of Topalov, he would have been hailed as the best player of all times instead. |
Jul-23-06 | | percyblakeney: <Anyway, Kasparov has always had enormous trouble facing players like Karpov and Kramnik> Absolutely. And Karpov may be the second best player ever so he's no easy opponent anyway. Karpov won the first 6 decisive games he played against Kasparov, after that it's +7 for Kasparov in classical games which isn't that much anyway considering how many games they've played. |
Jul-25-06 | | Runemaster: <Adrian P: I wouldn't write the hairy Azerbhajini off yet> Now I remember - Kasparov's real name is Hairy Weinstein. |
Aug-18-08 | | Woody Wood Pusher: great win by Karpov, especially since Kasparov said something like he was sure he would win the match before it even started..lol |
Sep-26-08 | | Everett: Given how booked up everyone is nowadays, I would say rapid chess is more "real" and realistic for the populace than finding 5 hours a night to play a game. |
May-27-09
