<WhiteRook48: Kasparov blunders two pawns. Was he trying to improve his bishop at c8?>

He was trying to get rid of that strong White f5-knight (Δ 21... ♗c8x♘f5).

Sep-02-09  Bondsamir: It is very nice game by Huzman but it is not that heavy loss to Kasparov whose powers were in steep decline after the years 2000 and on.
Sep-19-09  SetNoEscapeOn: As a title for this game, how about "Huzman, all too Huzman" (or simply "all too Huzman")?
Sep-20-09  SetNoEscapeOn: Much better is "Only Huzman".
Dec-06-09  AccDrag: Bondsamir: It is very nice game by Huzman but it is not that heavy loss to Kasparov whose powers were in steep decline after the years 2000 and on.

LOL. If being #1 in the world and winning major tournaments consistently are examples of "steep decline," I wonder what would have impressed you. Defeating the strongest chess player from another galaxy?

Jun-20-10  Kazzak: Kasparov must have done some world class squirming here. There should have been video.

@Bondsamir. Seriously, Kasparov in steep decline?

You read the strangest things in here.

Jun-20-10  KingG: It's a shame about this loss. Kasparov was playing some brilliant chess up until this point, scoring 4/4. A couple of great games were Kasparov vs Grischuk, 2003 and Kasparov vs V Chuchelov, 2003.
Aug-05-10  Marmot PFL: When you get close to 40 there are bound to lapses from time to time.
Aug-06-10  hellopolgar: Kasparov is human too after all. he completely dominated Huzman(2-0) earlier in the 1998 ISR-Kasparov handicap.

so imagine, here you are, sitting in front a chess board, playing a classical game against someone you had no trouble beating in a simul, you probably have plans to be somewhere after this game with your lover/friend, furthermore, it's a tournament that you don't really care that much, what would you have done?

i bet Kasparov blitzed out the first 20 moves and suddenly realized that he is in serious trouble. after losing those two pawns, i doubt even today's 3300-rated-Rybka can turn the tide around against a 2600ish GM.

Oct-01-10  DarthStapler: What happens if black plays 22... Be6?

  Sastre: I think one line is <23.Nxg7 Qe7 (23...Kxg7 24.Rg5+ Kh8 25.Qxf6#) 24.Rg5 Kh8 25.Nh5>.
Dec-28-10  thickhead: <Sastre> Interesting is 22... Be6 23.Nxg7 Qe7 24.Rg5 Ne4 !? White has no time to move Q to safety.Any way he wins by 25.Nxe6+ Qxg5 26.Nfxg5 Nxc3 27.Nxc7 Rac8 28.Bxf7+ Rxf7 29.Nxf7 rxc7 30.Ne5 is easy win for white.
Aug-15-11  sevenseaman: After Kasparov's somewhat desperate 17...Ne4 recovery effort, Huzman keeps tightening the tourniquet. 21. Rxd5 leaves no leeway to Kasparov to recover, and the writing goes up on the wall!
Sep-14-11  Ranjan: Kasparov honored him. He had capacity to fight even in this position against a player under 2600
Sep-14-11  Cemoblanca: Here swept "The Wizard of Huz". :D
Sep-14-11  Cemoblanca: >>> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0032138/

;0)

Sep-14-11  Cemoblanca: 1 terrible move and the game was over.

20...♗c8?(?) Huh??? [20...♕d7! and 21.♖xd5 is not possible, because the pawn is protected by the bishop.]

21.♖xd5! Don't touch my horse. ;0)

21...♕e8 There is nothing better. [21...♘xd5?? ♕xg7#]

Feb-08-12  notyetagm: Game Collection: TIYDIIIS - THAT IS YOUR DEFENDER IT INTERPOSES I

Huzman vs Kasparov, 2003 Black f6-knight interposes g7-sq from White b2-queen: b2-g7@f6

Aug-23-13  arttrysted: rxd6 was a nice move it's understandable under the conditions how kasparov missed the uncommon placement of the knight f5 creating this unique and beautiful tactical opportunity.
Sep-18-13  ArturoRivera: Suggestion <chessgames>. A nice pun for this game would be "errare Huzmanum est"
Sep-18-13  Shams: <ArturoRivera> Very clever.
Jan-28-14  joddon: kasparov was either sleeping in the opening in this game, sending pieces and then retreating them for no reason and leaving no protection to his center pawns......this is an example of no one comes near bobby fischer when it comes to openings and middle games, although I never am sure any player ever had 100 percent perfect endings.nice try kaspy.
