tamar: In an interview, Aronian explains the sacrifice

<I recall I was trying to impress a girl, and have her say, what a move, what a player! Then I played it against Bu, and sacrificed to Filippov. I hope this sacrifice comes into fashion. In general, I learned that varoation from Gabriel (Sargissian)-as well as a majority of my other opening variations>

Jun-23-06  notyetagm: This game was voted third best in all of 2005 in a recent poll of GMs over at http://www.e3e5.com/eng/petersburg/....
Jun-23-06  you vs yourself: <notyetagm> What was voted as the 2nd best in '05?
Jun-23-06  Marmot PFL: <<I recall I was trying to impress a girl, and have her say, what a move, what a player!> Was that the girl whose boyfriend punched him out? Not essy to find women who care if you are good at chess so I guess they have to fight over them.
Jun-24-06  notyetagm: <you vs yourself> 2nd Best Game Of 2005: Motylev vs Bareev, 2005, from the 2005 Russian SuperFinal.
Jun-24-06  you vs yourself: <notyetagm> Thanks!
Jun-24-06  Chess Classics: Indeed, nice game by Aronian. Quite entertaining.

Was #1 Judit Polgar vs Kasimdzhanov, 2005?

Regards,
CC

Jun-24-06  notyetagm: <Chess Classics> Heck no, that game was not even nominated. The winner was the famous Topalov v Anand game from M-Tel 2005.
Jun-26-06  whatthefat: Astonishing game, and not at all easy to understand all the nuances. The position after black's 24th move is quite stunning.
Jul-01-06  Chess Classics: <notyetagm> Oh, I see. I guess it makes sense, but I didn't really start following current proffesional chess until Adams-Hydra.

Regards,
CC

Aug-22-06  think: What if 20. ... dxe4 or 21. ... dxe4?

there seem to be many options for white, but which is the best? 21. d5
21. c7
21. Nxg6
or some other move?

May-16-07  Plato: This is my favorite Aronian game, even more than his win over Anand at Linares. A real gem.
May-24-07  Rodrigo Gutierrez: This is truly a breathtaking game. I just played it at "Guess the move" and I was taken 14 points off in all for not finding the best tactics! But then again, in this particular game, who would...
