Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-29-06  chess champion 8: I think is was a simple game. There were no awesome moves that happened. Its seems like the same pieces were being moved in the very begging. It just looked like a reqular game to me. I didn't see any grandmaster style in it.
Jun-29-06  rover: Black just blundered on move 7 than failed to put up too much resistance. You're right, a regular master probably would have won the game in a very similar manner. You need a good opponent to create a brilliant game.

Must have been a thrill for Hobber to get to play Carlsen even if it meant a sure loss. He will remember this game and probably never do the same error again ever.

Jul-03-06  ChessMan94: Here's a pic from when Black was pondering his blunder. http://tromsosjakklubb.com/2006/MSC...
Sep-03-10  nummerzwei: With 6.Qe2, Carlsen indicated his opinion on Black's chess ability.

FSR: <nummerzwei> Not really. 6.Qe2 is a good move even if Black avoids the trap. Black falls into the trap very often - a <majority> of the time after 6...Nxe4 7.Bxe4, Black follows up with 7...Nf6? I was astonished to see that the victims of this trap include chess legends Kholmov, M Kobalia vs Kholmov, 1996, and Gaprindashvili, http://www.365chess.com/game.php?gi...!
