I could just mean he logged on to look at our move, but didn't make a move himself.

Domdaniel: <crawfb5> -- <Feelin' Movey> Nice version of the Simon and Garfunkel song. Since the line <I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep> is in the original and not hugely chessical, you might consider changing it to something like

<I'm checkered and cornered
and ready to leap>

Just a thought.

Aug-04-08  firebrandx: <kb2ct: <dotsamoht: My understanding is that Shredder is the program and Rybka is an engine I can install into Shredder to upgrade its performance. Is this correct? So when you give analysis from Rybka, you mean Shredder using Rybka... right?>

Until recently, Rybka did not have its own graphics user interface. If you wanted to use it and see a chessboard, you had to install it as a UCI engine in Shredder or Fritz.

:0)
>

Technically Rybka is still just an engine. Rybka 3 has to be used in one of either two GUI flavors:

1. Fritz GUI from Chessbase

2. Aquarium GUI from Convetka

Aug-04-08  zanshin: <firebrandx> I think you can add Chess Assistant to that list.
Aug-04-08  amadeus: "Rybka 3 UCI is not a standalone program and works only in other popular interfaces e.g. Fritz, ChessBase 9, Shredder, Junior, Hiarcs, Chess Assistant." From: http://store.convekta.com/shop_mode...

I'd guess we can add Arena (and Aquarium) too.

Aug-04-08  zanshin: Not to be too picky, but ISTM that Rybka 3 is being packaged with 3 GUIs: Fritz by Chessbase and Aquarium and Chess Assistant by Convekta. If you get the Rybka 3 UCI engine alone, well then you are correct ... that should work with any GUI that supports UCI (universal chess interface) protocols.
Aug-04-08  Boerboel Guy: <klangenfarben> You do not know what experiences I have with overseas clients... so please don't surmise anything.

And no, am and pm is not the standard practice and certainly not in the international computer industry (in which I work).

There is no need to get upset over a perceived 'ridicule' LOL

< amadeus: "Rybka 3 UCI >

I just paid for Rybka 3 UCI for download via paypal as per their instructions.

That might work. After all, art is never completed, only abandoned... :-)

Just a thought.

GoldenKnight: I believe my Shredder comes with the Fritz interface and I also have Rybka installed in it, so I now have all three. When I do get Rybka 3, it will probably be Aquarium, unless ChessBase with its Monte Carlo analysis seems better. Any comments on the latter?

Aug-04-08  ravel5184: Well, I guess I'll stick to my "ravel5184 CC" thing in the GMAN game since I don't get to be the marker-placer-thingy!
Aug-04-08  ravel5184: Speaking of which, we need him to resign before October 1st or I won't be able to!
Aug-04-08  amadeus: <mckmck: <kwid> send a mail to convekta@gmail.com with your Transaction ID.>

According to their homepage, they also have support by Phone, ICQ and Skype:

<Phone: +44-1628-486676>

<Now we have ICQ support, please, contact us at 220772637 (our login ChessOK)>

<Convekta Ltd starts voice support by Skype! You can call our login ChessOK on any workday from 12-00 till 16-00 Greenwich Time>

Hope it helps.

That Monte Carlo idea; we should check it against a real KNOWN position: this game after <37...Ra7>.

Will it find <38.h4>? And when?

Aug-04-08  firebrandx: I've already purchased the Chessbase Deep Rybka 3 version. They have to ship it to me, but when it arrives, I'll try it out on the Ra7 position.

It's the position after <36...c3>; the move <37.Nf6> is commented as contra intuitive.

It takes Fruit 17-ply to find it; what about the Monte Carlo analysis?

< amadeus > < Re downloading Rybka 3 from Convekta Ltd >

I want to get also other products from them. But are they a legitimate /thrust worthy company?

Anyway, they do advertise Rybka download for much less then chessbase.

But when placing an order they just fate away. I hope my order via visa is secure since I can not cancel it.

Even Paypal gives me now problem with my account overview etc. They seem to have an old e-mail address for which I have no access anymore. But my account lo-gin demands my old address which I did use last time to pay for my chessgames premium membership fee.

I did try to phone but could not find a way past the computer answering wizard. Oh well looks like I am getting to old and obsolete in this computer age. And I wanted to buy a new computer in order to keep up with you for the next game. I better forget about it and just keep using my own ticker for what ever worth.

If it's any consolation, Premium membership is required because you need it to edit the sticky and to use the 'Search Kibitzing' feature .. so it wouldn't have worked out for you long term.

And just so everyone knows, User: dotsamoht has accepted this role for the next game.

To clarify matters (and this means you <sentriclecub> ;-)), <kutz> is not stepping down from anything. Far from it. I cleared this with him before announcing I would like to step down from my role in maintaining the sticky in order to focus on forum preparation. The roles are parallel, but different. And since we had a recent influx of new and willing Premum members, I thought this would be a good time to step down. Thanks for the offer for assistance <sentriclecub>. There will be plenty to do next game.
