Sep-16-07  Ulhumbrus: Grischuk may have set Kramnik a problem by choosing this variation, if Kramnik has planned to save his preparation of it for Anand.

Domdaniel: <chessic eric> Me too -- but I like to play 1.Nf3 and then decide later whether to play a d4 system or a c4 system ... while Kramnik alternates on move one. Maybe KID/Gruenfeld comes into his calculations?
Sep-16-07  chessic eric: haven't i seen Anand play 11...Be4 here, and against Kramnik?
Sep-16-07  Marmot PFL: Be4, Nbd7, Qa8 look like good plan
Sep-16-07  chessic eric: scratch my last, I think Anand plays ...d5 after ...Be4, and obviously that ain't happnin' here.

Domdaniel: <Eric Schiller> Have you thought about another upgrade of your Catalan book, given all the recent activity? Good as it is, some key variations have moved on (as you know very well if your database has 40 times as many examples as mine!)

Domdaniel: <danielpi> Thanks. I've got a feeling Kramnik doesn't do whimsy much. As you suggest, there's method there.
Sep-16-07  Marmot PFL: Anand is about 20 minutes on Moro as well. Never know if it will matter or not.

Open Defence: Vlad said to Topalov gimme your pawn

Hold on there.. let me think for a minute son...
Now where do want the pawn sac done..
Vlad said how about on Kb1

Vishy was talkin to Gary the King...
He said please help me with a few things...
Like a hundred Catalans that don't win...
Gary said let me think for a minute son...
Yeah I know what can be done.. dont ever play Kb1...

Blow yer harmonica son....

Sep-16-07  chessic eric: Sorry about the atrocious grammar in the former version of this post...

<Domdaniel><I like to play 1.Nf3 and then decide later whether to play a d4 system or a c4 system> - me too. No doubt you're right about KID & Grunfeld in general, but a quick look over Grischuk's games here doesn't indicate that he plays either of those often.

  Sneaky: <Open Defense> LOL, that's precious

I'm not so sure about that. I get the feeling that Kramnik has a rather biting sense of irony. E.g. yesterday's game could have been drawn by agreement, but Kramnik played it out to the stalemate. I agree that he wouldn't do it if it made a difference, but if he could get away with a different move order without risking a position he didn't like, maybe he'd do it. That said, you're probably right, there's probably a concrete reason for d4 rather than Nf3.

Sep-16-07  magerk: Be4 maybe??
Sep-16-07  fxenderby: <Open Defence> quite pynchonesque :)

Sep-16-07  chessic eric: 12.Ba5,Qa8
Sep-16-07  geraldo8187: kramnik must still be in prep
Sep-16-07  amuralid: Just how well prepared is Vlad? Not seen him take time during any of his opening matches!
Sep-16-07  MindCtrol9: 12.Nc3 is the obvious move,I guess.

  al wazir: 13...g5!
Sep-16-07  acirce: 13.Qxc7 came super-quickly. Kramnik's preparation is something extra.
Sep-16-07  you vs yourself: He's up on the clock and has an extra pawn. His name is Kramnik and he'll win this game.
