Jun-19-08  Villiers: 52... a1=Q 53. Qf6 Qxf6 ??? 54. Qxf6 and White is winning with 2 pawns vs 0.
Jun-19-08  rankbeginner: Beautiful ending ! ... I missed white's Kh6 -- the winning idea.
Jun-19-08  whiteshark: After <53.Qf6> it's a tabkebase win in 23 moves.

Jun-19-08  orio24: Hm, what about 47. - a4, instead of 47. - ♔e8. That one looks much stronger to me.
Jun-19-08  Phil Holden: How far back could white have planned this?
Jun-19-08  Ulhumbrus: <mezzieh: 48...Kf7 49. Kf5 a4 50. g5 a3 51. g6+ Kf8 and who is on top?> White, but he may fail to win after 52 Ke6 a2 53 g7+ Kg8 54 Ke7 a1/Q 55 f7+ Kxg7 56 f8/Q+
Jun-19-08  rankbeginner: Thanks whiteshark ... Elanj did his best to make things complicated, but Ivanchuck played solidly. It will be interesting to see the analysis of the game, if both players did, in fact, play the most accurate lines.
Jun-19-08  jtd200: If 47..a4, white still queens first, with all of the advantage.
Jun-19-08  rankbeginner: Elanj is playing on in this position, and not resigning? ... Few people realize that chess players get paid by the hour.
Jun-19-08  Comandente: This game was a great choice chessgames.com! :) Karjakin-Carlsen was drawn hours ago and now we saw a real brilliancy by miiiiiiiiiiister Chucky!
Jun-19-08  Ulhumbrus: 56. h5 Qg2 57. Qf6+ Kd5 58. g5 Qg4 59. h6 Kc5 60. h7 Qd7+ 61. Qf7 Qd4+ 62. Kg8 Rybka v2.3.2a (0:00.17)+6.29|d11)
Jun-19-08  mezzieh: Black Queen is almost useless.
Jun-19-08  sabitsingson: Draw. Only if white blunders. Otherwise, it's already a sure win for white.
Jun-19-08  sabitsingson: Chucky will lose on time. :)
Jun-19-08  orio24: <jtd200: If 47..a4, white still queens first, with all of the advantage.>

You are right, 48. ♔g6 makes it.

Jun-19-08  Akuni: Just put this position into the shredder endgame database, says its a white win in 15 moves with h5.
Jun-19-08  waustad: trip the rook fantastic
Jun-19-08  acirce: Having two extra connected passers in a Qpp vs Q endgame is in itself no guarantee for a win. It was quite shocking when they found out that a position like this even with White to move is actually objectively drawn:

But of course the position in the game is completely different.

tamar: h5 h6 make an umbrella over the King. No need to move the major pieces
Jun-19-08  Akuni: ...Qxh5 Qf7+ and Chucky wins.
Jun-19-08  malthrope: OK Pavel - throw in the towel! ~lol~ Chucky takes 2nd place and the Chess Universe is restored! ;)
Jun-19-08  rankbeginner: I tell my wife all the time: "We are low on cash, and we are running out of checks."
Jun-19-08  jtd200: 1-0 Official.
Jun-19-08  whiteshark: After <58.h5> it's a tablebase #14 position.
Jun-19-08  braimondi: Chuky!!!!!! Winsss!! o//
