  Richard Taylor: Here I missed 29. ... Rxf3 which may even win. If 30. Kg1 Rh8 31. Rad1 Rh1+ and mate in a few moves (if 32. Kg2 Rd3# or 32. Kg1 Rh1+ 33. Kxh1 Rh3++ 34. Kg1 Rh1#)

At the least Black gets a strong attack and his pawns back.

29. ..Bxf3 is simply weak by me.

Jan-15-09  Benzol: <Richard> 29...♖xf3 would have been a good move. Did you not realize its strength at the time?
Jan-15-09  Ychromosome: If 31...Rfe8 32.Rf6+ Kh7 33.Bd4 Rcd8 34.Rd6 Rxd6 35.cxd6 and white doing well with the connected passed pawns.

  Richard Taylor: <Benzol> I found a note something like "Tournament ended - at last!" I was playing so many games of chess - the NZCCs this match and one with England and I had adjourned games and Club games and my wife at the time hated chess (or me playing it at least) and wanted to move house, and then I changed my job, and heard my father had cancer and my father in law (who I loved also) and so on so about that time I started playing less chess and also not playing well...

I forget - it's really surprising I missed the Rxf3 - I mean even when I was 12 - or maybe 14 - I would have found that move...in a lightening game!

Actually when I was about 15 I was around 1800+ (ELO about 1900+ or so) - but I was erratic - subject to "fade out" or just fatigue and blunders and so on so I could play a 1200 or 2000 age depending ... such is life.

Even now fatigue is one of my worst enemies - but by the end of the above games I was pretty chessed out!! But it was an interesting experience to "meet" all those overseas people... I have quite a few other interesting correspondence games to load up wins and losses...Smith gotme once! And Garbett - had quick draw with Int Corres. Master Mark Noble, another win against IM Dive. Also I have my other draw against Sarapu...but of course I have many pretty ordinary games.

often my most exciting games are or were pretty flawed but played at more or less my own level...

My Lukey masterpiece isn't here yet!

Yes this looks right also (thanks for your time and interest) - I don't think I resigned I think it was adjudicated against me but I cant remember - I assume it was - or probably was as black is worse. Might have a chance OTB with "resourceful play by Black" but probably not.

Interesting variant of the Open - have never played that as Black before - or since! Might try it some time.
