Jul-20-09  TITIKIZA: what a game
Jul-20-09  whiteshark: <TITIKIZA: what a game> Yes, indeed! Both players were in severe time trouble at the end of the game.
Jul-20-09  schroedingers cat: Try analyzing Moros 28th move with an engine it goes like: -2.4,-1.8, -0.09,0.00, +0.04,+0.09 at least mine did :)
Jul-20-09  whiteshark: Maybe he could have turned his defeat off with <26...a5 Nd3 Nxg7>

Square d3 is blocked for ♗f1 for a while, so that there are no immediate threats against black's king. Furthermore f5 may become a good blockade square.

Jul-20-09  ToTheDeath: Brilliant attack without queens. Morozevich is one of the most creative players of all time.
Jul-20-09  totololo: It is a beautty to see how Moro develops the attack in a natural way and everything is in place by move 20. This is really GRAND ART that puts him in line with Lasker and Alekhine.
Jul-20-09  kdogphs: Would 23. Nc3 be a more acceptable move??? or is 23. Nb4 the best move in this situation???
Jul-20-09  Anatoly21: Darn. While 34.Rh7 may be sufficient, if Moro had not been in time trouble, he may have seen 34.Bxg6 which is a more artful and faster way to win. For example, 34.Bxg6 fxg6 35.Rh8+ Kf7 36.R1h7+ Ke6 37.Rxd8. In any case, delightful play by Morozevich.
Jul-20-09  Anatoly21: Quick "seat of the pants" analysis:

9...Bf5?! I'm a little suspicious of this line, but maybe Black has better chances than my intuition suggests.

17...Ba4?! h6 seems more circumspect.

23.Nb4!? Nc3 seemed more natural, but this move does have the advantage of preventing the b-rook from making any incursions at opportune moments.

29...h5? This cannot be good. Nxd3 was simply essential in my opinion. White is still better, but Black's position has better resources here than in the game variation.

30...a5?! While initially attractive to me, Bb5 seems better.

Jul-21-09  dumbgai: Typical Moro game: chaos on the board and he prevails.
Jul-21-09  orior: Anatoly21, what are you talking about?
Rh7 is better than going for the d8 rook with Bxg6 - it aims for a mate after Rg7+, taking the knight and mate with Rh8. You can rest assured morozevich didn't "overlook" that obvious Bxg6 :)

Morozevich overlooked the mate in 8.

34 Bxg6 leads to mate in 8

34 Rh7 takes over twenty move to mate.

Jul-21-09  OneArmedScissor: I would like to see Moro come to a big park in some disguise and play people and just absolutely roll them.

It would be hilarious

Jul-22-09  shintaro go: Morozevich gave the term 'Pawnstorm' a new meaning.
Jul-25-09  Marmot PFL: I should not presume to criticize grandmaster openings, but I always played 6...b6 here and don't like d5. I don't see why black should be in any hurry to commit his center pawns when one of the strengths of the Nimzo-Indian is the wide choice of pawn structure it allows.
