Sep-04-09  whiteshark: Quote of the Day

<Really bad moves can always be refuted by General principles. >

Probably a bit Dubios here.

Feb-06-10  morphyesque: Chessgames.com have white listed as "M General" whereas on p44 of the February 1961 edition of the BCM he is shown by R N Coles in his column "One Hundred Years Ago", as General M... as if Coles did not know the general's full name.He mentions that Dubois was the strongest player in Italy at the time but it had not been possible to assess his strength until the London congress of 1862.However Coles states that the date of this game was either late 1860 or early 1861, (not 1850 as stated above by Chessgames.com); which I think is more probable. This game appeals to my artistic senses as much now as when I first saw it as a 15 year old in 1961.
Apr-22-13  TheTamale: A lovely game by today's POTD. Not only that, he defeated the very model of a Modern Major General. Of course, MM General can no longer be considered modern, so he is only listed as M General here.
Apr-09-18  CheckMateEndsTheGame: I will attack! Queen sac I didn't see.
Apr-09-18  sudoplatov: Looks a bit the Wilks-Barre variation of the Two Knights.

wwall: The game is found in <The Chess Monthly>, 1858, page 203, edited by Daniel Fiske. It says White was an amateur and did not say he was a general. A note at the end of the game said "The game was played at Rome in the year 1850."
