Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-21-09  Eduardo Leon: The game could have continued

<26...♗xc3!>

Black gives up his good bishop in order to centralize his knight.

<27.♗xc3>

Not 27.♕xc3? ♘e4, winning the exchange.

<27...♘e4 28.♖f1>

Not 28.♖e2? ♕g3+ 29.♔g1/h1 ♘xc3 30.♕xc3 ♖d1+.

<28...♕g3+ 29.♔h1>

Not 29.♔g1? ♕xe3+, winning a piece.

<29...♕xe3>

Threatening both 30...♕xc3 and 30...♘g3+.

<30.♗e1 gxh3>

Black is two solid pawns up, coordinates better his pieces and has more space.

Nov-24-09  Eisenheim: <Eduardo Leon> I played it out identical to you until move 29 where I played ... gxh3 to force the action and keep the pressure on. if 30 rf3 hxg2+, 31 qxg2, qxg2+ 32 kxq and black picks up the bishop
Nov-24-09  Eduardo Leon: <Eisenheim>, you are right <29...gxh3> is stronger. When I analyzed the game's final position, I didn't notice that <29...gxh3 30.gxh3 ♕xh3+ 31.♕h2> dropped the bishop.
Mar-21-10  cy71fan: Why resign now. Move 29...gxhe 30 be1 ends in white attack down g row with Q, B & R. However 29...Qxe3 (first line above) could end with passed pawns racing down A for white and b&c for black. I would like to know what black saw coming to call it quits at this time.
Apr-25-15  DiscoJew: A beautiful and straightforward game from Magnus demonstrating logically clear strategic Slav play with the black pieces, as well as highlighting his lucid positional style. A model game. Every black move has a positive and harmonious organic purpose, and the game flows like a river until Bareev is drowned by the black positions overwhelming strength. Note many of whites moves lack a coherent underlying plan, and each mistake digs a deeper and deeper hole for white, all the while Carlsen gains ground and doesn't give it back. Such an epic style to watch unfold!
Apr-26-15  MagnusVerMagnus: Damn he plays everything now, he has no fear at all. Beautiful.
