Aug-27-14  ajile: 23.Rac1?
Aug-27-14  whiteshark: Carlsen is under 9 minutes for the remaining 15 moves. MVL has 15 minutes left.
Aug-27-14  Eduardo Leon: <ajile> I was expecting 23.♖ad1 too.
Aug-27-14  Eduardo Leon: Now I like black's position better after 25...♕d2 26.♕c2 ♖f2 27.♕xd2 ♖xd2 28.♖c7 ♗e4, but I do not have any engines to determine whether my analysis is any good.

plang: After 25..Qd2 he has to be confident he isn't mated after 26 Qb8+
Aug-27-14  Eduardo Leon: Does 26.♕b8+ ♔g7 27.♕g8+ ♔h6 28.♕f8+ lead anywhere useful for white? What do engines have to say?
Aug-27-14  Marmot PFL: Caruana impressively outplayed Topalov in a complicated game

plang: Give Carlsen credit for working this out with so little time left

Aug-27-14  Marmot PFL: Topalov resigns with most of his pieces left. Caruana was going to march his passed c-pawn and white couldn't stop it.
Aug-27-14  whiteshark: and Topalov lost to Caruana.
Aug-27-14  ajile: Draw agreed.
Aug-27-14  Marmot PFL: Thanks, exciting game and seemed both played well
Aug-27-14  chesswar1000: Excellent play from Caruana, wouldn't be really surprised if he ousted Aronian from #2.

chancho: Magnus is one slippery young man.
Aug-27-14  Ulhumbrus: Houdini's evaluations suggest that 10 Nd5? gives Black some advantage while 10 fxg7! keeps a slight advantage
Aug-27-14  Marmot PFL: Carlsen says he could have forced the draw on move 21 but decided to play for more, even though low on time.
Aug-27-14  Kinghunt: 25... Qd3 instead of 25... Qd2 would mean that the final perpetual check couldn't happen, as the queen would guard the f5 pawn and prevent it from being taken. However, white would not be forced to play into the same line, and black would likely have a relatively small advantage.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Add this one to the list of brilliancy prize-worthy draws. If the database is correct, the players left theory on move 8 (!) of one of the world's oldest openings.
