An Englishman: Good Evening: Is the score accurate? Can't see anything wrong with 38.Nxe7. Good pun for a flawed game. White might have done better with 17.Bb4,b6 (c6; 18.d6); 18.Bxa5,bxb5; 19.Rac1 and look at all those yummy squares on the c-file for the Knights and Rooks.

seems he played 38.Rac1, probably didn't like the Black Queen infiltrating with Qxe4...!

Teyss: Agree with <An Englishman>, something strange about the score. The BQ infiltration with 38.Nxe7 Qxe4 doesn't seem worth a whole Rook. It's unlikely both players missed the capture for 4 consecutive plies, even in time scramble close to the 40th, as White was rated approx. 2300 at the time and Black 2000 so it's not exactly patzers. Maybe the score is 37...Rea7 38.Rac1 Bf8 39.h3 Rc8 with the same position.

Great pun, indeed Klear coasted after the highly speculative Queen sac, in the sense he didn't do much. Maybe he was impressed by the Elo gap? If the venue had been on a coastline, even the shore of a lake, it would have been tremendous.

At the end if the BQ moves, we reach an impressive zugzwang position: 50...Qb8 (the Q has to be on the last rank as we'll see) 51.d6+ Rf7 52.Rg5 Qa8 (attacking e4, there's not much else) 53.f3 Qe8 (or other) 54.f6 Qf8 (else mate) 55.a5! (faster than Bxf8).

Apr-15-25  goodevans: Hard to believe that Black managed to lose this after winning White's Q for two minors.

It seems that after 22.Bb2, Black has a choice of ways to gain a potentially winning advantage.

First, I couldn't have resisted the urge to shove White back with <22...Nd4 23.Qd1 f3 24.Bh1>. What I saw then was that <24...b5 25.Nd2 b4> wins White's N because it can't leave the defence of e2 else ...Ne2+. SF actually likes this better than the game's winning of the White Q but says other moves, e.g. 24...Nf4, are even better.

A nice game despite the probable garbling of some of the score. Would have been even nicer if they'd played it out to <Teyss>'s Zugswang.
