 | | Gypsy: Looks like a routine win for White: Extra pawn and slightly better play from his pieces. |
Apr-01-18 | | Marmot PFL: Should be routine for white, if not it will raise some questions after Carlsen failed to win yesterday. |
Apr-01-18 | | The Kings Domain: Hou didn't use her time too wisely. |
Apr-01-18 | | Marmot PFL: Ne6+ and Nd4 looks like it wins a pawn |

Apr-01-18
 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: After 12.Qd1, the game looked like a Philidor Defense in which White played *much* too passively, and if anything Black seemed slightly better. Wondering if perhaps 21...Bxf3 was a mistake, give that Carlsen managed to put both doubled f-pawns to work. |
Apr-01-18 | | Marmot PFL: White needs the rook in postion to help the knight first though. Not so easy to get that. |
Apr-01-18 | | Marmot PFL: If there is no clear way forward Carlsen will be patient and sooner or later black will make a mistake. Leko likes Nh5+ Ng3 and Nf5 (after he rook moves) but I am not sure that it really does much. |

 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: Thinking that White will have to make his breakthrough on the Queen side and pick up another pawn there. Just noticed that White's Bishop does not control the h-pawn's promotion square. Won't prove easy to get the pawn to h6, let alone h8. |
Apr-01-18 | | Marmot PFL: <Just noticed that White's Bishop does not control the h-pawn's promotion square.> If white can trade the other pieces (which he should do eventually) than I don't this is so important as there are pawns on both sides of the board. |

 | | Gypsy: <... Just noticed that White's Bishop does not control the h-pawn's promotion square. Won't prove easy to get the pawn to h6, let alone h8.> True. But knights are also ill suited for stopping rook-pawns. I think the key is that the underlying pawn endgame is routinely won for White - the h-pawn is traded in for a king raid upon Black Q-side pawns. I expect the play here to be similar; with or without some of the pieces currently on the board. |
Apr-01-18 | | Ulhumbrus: White is a pawn ahead but so far the h pawn has not tied up any of Black's pieces and even if it does White has to make that piece needed elsewhere. This suggests that White has to arrange a queen side attack |

Apr-01-18 | | Jack Kerouac: Looks like a win for the Champ.
But as the late, great, Leon Russel once said, 'Don't get hung up
over Easter.' |

Apr-01-18 | | andrewjsacks: Now Black threatens Rf2 completing the classic F file tango. |

Apr-01-18
 | | An Englishman: Good Morning: Looking at the position after 54.Bf3 and feeling rather disappointed the Black Rook couldn't find a way to join the festivities on the f-file. |

 | | offramp: 54.Bf3. This is the position.

But I'm going to imagine that Hou's rook is at f2:

That looks far out! |
Apr-01-18 | | Ulhumbrus: 54...Ne5 attacks the bishop. Besides, what else is Black going to do with that knight? |
Apr-01-18 | | Marmot PFL: Maybe 55 Ra1 creates problems for black's king. |
Apr-01-18 | | whiteshark: In the meantime...the Leko Monologues... |

Apr-01-18 | | BOSTER: Carlsen plays very fast. |
