Sally Simpson: Some wonderful refreshing chess being played in this match.

The ghost of Janowski faded away after move 20 with an astonished look on his face.

Without a Knight to hold the Kingside together White got overran.

Later, in these positions (White to play)

I've always found that if given the chance the first to play Qh5 (as White) or Qh4 (as Black) has all the chances. Do not know if 24.Qh5 is a major improvement but it certainly goes a long way to prevent what happened in the game.

Perhaps, to borrow a phrase from Tarrasch: "If 24.Qh5 then White would have lost in a different way."

34.Kf1 was meant to stop the Family Fork with 34...Nf3+ but it was played anyway. (though to be fair I cannot see anything that holds out. 34.Kh1 meets the same move Nf3.)

May-09-18  JPi: Yes around move 10, already I prefer Black which means Ton Zhongyi has a lot of problem in her opening preparation. 9.Bg5 might keep the balance in a more stable way. 16...Bf5 seems simple.
May-09-18  Marmot PFL: Wenjun vs Hou Yifan would be a more interesting match.

HeMateMe: exciting, tactical games, so far. May as well accept the fact that Hou isn't interested in this format and stayed away, just as Judit Polgar did.
