  MissScarlett: On <14.b3>, MacDonnell notes, <Inexplicable, save only to those who know that throughout nearly the whole of this tournament White was suffering from an inflammation that rendered him sleepless by night and stupid by day.>

<Z> At least the game provenance on this upload is SOURCED LIKE A CHAMP:

<Illustrated Sporting & Dramatic News, 1885.07.11, p.449>

Oct-16-21  Z truth 000000001: Yes, 'tis goody, ye olde worked sausage.

But decoupling such a juicy quote from the PGN leaves it just "dangling" in the comment stream.

I'm used to it by now, but I still grieve on long winter nights for the unwary reader.

Well yes I think all juicy items in the chat boxes should be sourced if they are quotes from elsewhere.

I am interested in this new tag you discovered that we can use now?

I read it somewhere but now I can't remember where.

[SourceNotes]

Something like that. That seems like something we should all be using, if we have important information about the game source.

How much have you discovered about the new tag? Are we allowed to put in hyperlinks now, some with ridiculously long strings of characters?

I saw you mentioning that yesterday as well. Agree it would be very convenient for all of us to have the relevant hyperlinks to web sources in our tags.

=========

Also I noticed <jnpope> came back, which is great news eh. He immediately gave you some serious props, I also noted. I can't remember what he said exactly, but something like <zanzibar POSTS LIKE A CHAMP>.

I was relieved he didn't mention me and say something like <jfq POSTS LIKE A CHIMP.>

Quickly then, <[SourceNotes "..."]> is a good tag, but a bit wordy. Z-base prefers the terser <[Notes "..."]>.

But, with that said, "SourceNotes" is definitely a good addition and is already present here on <CG>...

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/nph...

I'm still advocating <[Source_url "..."]> as a "good"™-thing, but <Missy> seems not to like it much, so its adoption is yet to be seen, at least here on <CG>.

(Z-base, of course, has had it for quite a bit already)

Oct-17-21  Z truth 000000001: "Good"™-thing being the champ of verbiage, I might add.
