Apr-14-05  compaq7550: I don't think that whites 12. h4 is completely soud. Maybe it is more of a phychological sacrifice.
Apr-14-05  compaq7550: what about 13...hxg6 for black?
Apr-14-05  compaq7550: 20. Bxh6 is an incorrect sacrifice.
refuted by:
2o...gxh6
21.Qg3+, Kh8
22.Qf4,Ng8
23.Bd3, Bf6
24.Qf5,Kg7
25.Qg4+,Kf8
26.Rhf1,Qb4!
27.Rf2,Be5
28.Qh5,Rc7
29.Bg6,Bd4!
30.Bxf7,Bxf2
31.Bxe8,Bd4!
32.Qe2,Re7

And black is way ahead.

Aug-22-05  waddayaplay: This had actually been played before up to black's move 17, where previously ...Rc5 had been tried.

R. Byrne and Mednis annotates it in Informator 79, giving 18.g3 as equal, and later instead of the impatient 20.Bxh6, 20.g3 as . Even if the sac is unsound when accepted, black's 20...bxc4 wins in just a few moves, so is probably better.

plang: This line usually scores well for White.

15..Rfc8 had been played in Gutman - Hracel Pardubice 1998, 15..Rac8 had been played in Kaidanov - Feingold US Ch. 1998 and 15..Rfe8 had been played in Ehlvest - Fedorowicz Statton Mountain 1999. White went on to win all 3 (none are in this database)

<compaq7550: I don't think that whites 12. h4 is completely soud. Maybe it is more of a phychological sacrifice.>

You will have a hard time finding a game in this line where Black takes the bishop - White's attack is too strong.
