Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-23-08  jonnymalk: 13... Bc5 maybe?
Nov-25-23  mel gibson: The first ply is easy - remove the defending Knight.

Stockfish 16 says mate in 23.

27. Rxd7+

(27. Rxd7+ (Rd4xd7+ Kd8xd7 Re1-d1+ Kd7-c8 b2xc3 Qa5-a3+ Kc1-b1 Rg8-f8 Qh6-b6 Qa3-e7 Bf7-e6+ Kc8-b8 Rd1-d7 Qe7xd7 Be6xd7 Kb8-a8 Bd7-c6 Rf8-f7 Qb6xb7+ Rf7xb7+ Bc6xb7+ Ka8xb7 f5-f6 Kb7-c6 f6-f7 e5-e4 f7-f8Q Kc6-d7 h4-h5 e4-e3 Qf8-f3 Kd7-e6 h5-h6 e3-e2 Qf3xe2+ Ke6-d5 Qe2-d3+ Kd5-c5 h6-h7 Kc5-c6 h7-h8Q Kc6-b7 Qd3-d6 Kb7-a7 Qd6-c7+) +M23/67 1174)

Nov-25-23  Brenin: The combination actually starts a move earlier, with 26 Bxf7+ Kd8 (not 26 ... Kxf7 27 Rxd7+ with mate in a few moves), and now 27 Rxd7+, exposing the K and removing a defender, seems rather obvious. There is no future in 27 ... Kc8 28 Bxg8, so 27 ... Kxd7 28 Re1+ Kc8 (blocking is useless. and 28 ... Kc7 29 Qd6+ leads to immediate mate). Now White can take either R with materal advantage and a strong continuing attack.
Nov-26-23  DouglasGomes: Presumably the player with the Black pieces was afraid of short castling. But how is Rg8 and Kf8 any better?

Nov-26-23  Lambda: You can take either of the rooks if you want. White is just winning generally.
