  plang: 11..c5 was new; 11..Be7, 11..Qc7 and 11..Qh4 had been played previously. Ivanchuk was critical of 14 Bf4?! allowing 14..f5; instead he recommended 14 Qe2..Be7 15 Bd2..0-0 with equal chances. The attempt to flee with 18 Kf2 would have been punished with the pretty 18..g5 19 hxg..hxg 20 Bxg5..Bh6! 21 Bxh6..Rxg2+ 22 Kxg2..Qxf3+ mating. 27 Ke2 would have allowed 27..Kf7 because 28 Bxf5..exf 29 e6+..Rxe6+ backfires.
