woldsmandriffield: A lot of action in this one! First Alekhine goes for a piece sacrifice with 12 Nh4 (he could have gone 12 Nd2 especially as he is playing blindfold!). The immediate 12..g5 runs into 13 b4 but 12..Nf8 13 o-o g5 14 d5 gxh4 15 Nxe4 is a genuine sacrifice and pretty wild.

14 f3 is another ‘out there’ move breaking rules about not opening lines with your King in the centre. 99% of players would have gone 14 Nf5 here.

Damant is definitely better around move 18 but Alekhine just keeps going and throws in a Queen sacrifice: 19 Nf5 idea 19..Rxe2 20 Rde1! but declining with 19..Nf6! would have been good for Black.

There are some inaccuracies in the subsequent play but it’s notable that Alekhine stays active throughout the game and as so often defending a passive position proves too much.
