Jun-16-10  xombie: Crisp and beautiful. Alekhine's games just have this energy about them, never seeming unsound.

Breunor: Does white have drawing chances with 50.Rxf3 ?
Jun-19-10  1. h4: <Breunor>

Not exactly.

50.Rxf3 Rfxf3; 51.Nxd2 (51.Rxd2 Rxb3) Rf2; 52.Ne4 (52.Nc4+ doesn't work as the pawn protects the rook after 52...bxc4) Rxb2+; 53.Kxb2 Rxd1; is the best I see for White. Relatively best, of course, as White is down the Exchange and a pawn with absolutely no chance of surviving.

Aug-13-20  Ulhumbrus: Perhaps it is after Maroczy disturbs his king side pawns by 8 h3 that Alekhine decides to play to castle on the queen side and for that reason is not worried about throwing forward his king side pawns.
