<DR. ALJECHIN TE SOERABAJA. Tweede séance.

Tijdens en na afloop van de tweede voorstelling, welke de wereldkampioen voor leden en genoodigden van de Soerabaja Schaakclub gisteravond in het Logegebouw gegeven heeft, zullen zij, die na de simultaan-séance van Zaterdagavond „onverhoopt" nog gemeend hebben iets van het schaakspel en zijn finesses te kennen, nu wel tot de overtuiging gekomen zijn, dat zij er toch eigenlijk bitter weinig van terecht brengen. Want de logische, fijne en kristalheldere spelvoering van Dr. Aljechin bij deze gelegenheid gedemonstreerd, moet ons wel tot de overtuiging gebracht hebben, dat wij onze, in locale kringen vaak geprezen schaakkennis, eigenlijk aan den kapstok kunnen hangen. Maar zoo somber behoeft men de eigen praestaties niet te beschouwen. Per saldo speelt de doorsnee-dilettant het schaakspel als „Nebensache", als een verkwikkende geestelijke tijdpasseering, waardoor alle vergelijkingen met genieën als een Dr. Aljechin c.i. niet eens de beschouwing waard zijn. Het is ook hier, dat velen geroepen zijn en weinigen uitverkoren en tot die uitverkorenen behoort de man die ons deze dagen geleerd heeft, dat men de kunst wel kan beoefenen en dienen, maar niet kan leeren.

Ook voor gisteravond was de belangstelling groot, weliswaar niet zoo geprononceerd als Zaterdag, doch dit zal zijn oorzaak gevonden hebben in de omstandigheid, dat het een weekdag gold en dat de aard der séance minder „kijkspel" was voor de massa. De fijnproevers waren echter allen opgekomen.

Dr. Aljechin had, na bespreking met den heer Dinger, er in toegestemd gelijktijdig 12 partijen te spelen tegen groepen van consulteerende spelers, waarvan 10 partijen ziende en 2 partijen blind. In de beide blind gespeelde partijen zou hij de witte stukken leiden, terwijl in de overige tien partijen de consulteerenden afwisselend wit en zwart zouden hebben. Het speeltempo werd op 20 zetten per uur bepaald.

Dr. Aljechin, die om 8 uur in het speellokaal arriveerde, onderhield zich nog even met eenige landgenooten, terwijl ondertusschen de koppels gevormd werden, die den strijd in consultatie tegen hem zouden opnemen. De borden 1 en 2 werden voor de blindpartijen bestemd, de nummers 3-12 voor de overige partijen.

Half negen nam deze séance een aanvang. Van de Soerabajasche spelers waren thans de sterksten opgekomen, o.a. de heeren ir. Meyer en ir. Buetecs, terwijl ook de heer Surber, die Zaterdag in de simultaan-séance de eer van Soerabaja had opgehouden, van de partij was. De heer Dinger belastte zich met de overbrenging van de zetten der beide blind gespeelde partijen.

Reeds na ca. drie kwartier viel de eerste beslissing. Bord no. 12, geleid door de heeren Bleyé en dr. Bon verkreeg een vroegtijdige remise door herhaling van zetten, ofschoon o.i. de meester hier zeer wel had kunnen probeeren door zijn meerdere eindspelkennis de winst af te dwingen. Wellicht een attentie tegenover zijn gastheeren, welke attentie achteraf hoogelijk gewaardeerd moest worden, omdat hiermede de débacle, die later volgen zou, althans door een half punt werd verzacht en de hatelijke nul vermeden werd. Op de meeste borden kwam Dr. Aljechln geleidelijk in het voordeel, ook in de beide blindpartijen, die hij zoet een scherpte en helderheid van geest behandelde, als stonden de borden en stukken vóór hem. Om 1 uur waren 7 partijen ten einde. De borden 4, 6, 8, 2, 3 en 9 hadden gecapituleerd, waaronder een blindpartij en een uur later waren ook de partijen aan bord 1,7,11 en 5 tot opgeven gedwongen, waarmede ook de andere blindpartij was uitgeschakeld. In deze laatste party voerde de meester het moeilijke eindspel op ragfijne wijze, waarbij zich aan het slot de „note gaie" voordeed, dat de consulteerenden een remise-aanbod deden, doch twee zetten later konden opgeven!

<DR. Alekhine in Surabaya. Second séance.

During and after the second performance, which is the world champion for members and invited guests from the Surabaya Schaakclub last night given in the Lodge building, they will, after the simultaneous séance of Saturday "unexpected" still have thought anything of chess and its subtleties to know, now come to the conclusion that they do nevertheless really bitter little of it. It is also here that many are called and few are chosen and who elect to include the man who taught us these days that one can practice the art well and serve, but can not teach.

Also of interest was last night great, although not as pronounced as Saturday, but this will have found its origin in the fact that it covered a weekday and that the nature of the séance was less "spectacle" for the masses. The connoisseurs were however all risen.

Dr. Alekhine had, after discussion with Mr. Dinger, consented to simultaneously play against 12 parties consult-income groups of players, including 10 parties and two parties seeing blind. In both blind games played he would lead the white pieces, while the other ten parties would consult the parties alternating white and black. The rate of play was set at 20 moves per hour.

Dr. Alekhine, who arrived in the playroom at 8 pm, kept himself a bit with some countrymen, while meanwhile the couples were formed, who would do battle in consultation against him. The boards 1 and 2 were intended for the blind sides, the numbers 3-12 for the other parties.

Half nine took this seance began. The Surabaya Serbian players were now emerged the strongest, including Messrs Ir. Meyer and Ir. Buetecs, while Mr. Surber, that Saturday in the simultaneous séance had ceased the honor of Surabaya, was present. On most boards came Dr. Aljechln gradually in favor, including the blind both parties, which he considered a sweet sharpness and clarity of mind, as were the boards and documents before him. 1 am seven parties were at an end. The boards 4, 6, 8, 2, 3 and 9 had capitulated, including a blind party and an hour later were also parties to sign 1,7,11 and 5 forced to abandon with which the other party was blind disabled.
