An Englishman: Good Morning: tpstar, thanks for pointing out this game. It's a good example of how Black can end up with no mobility for his pieces if White can tamp down the Alekhine's counterplay. Notice that at move 26, all of Kurajica's pawns are on the same color as his Bishop, yet Black's Bishop is far inferior. When I was playing the Alekhine as my Number One defense, the 5.exd6 line always gave me more trouble than any other, and I still believe it's the best way to combine the attempt to gain as much advantage for White in the opening with the attempt to keep Black under control.

tpstar: <An Englishman> Good Day! Thanks for your comments, especially insightful since you know this opening. I get the sense that most 1 ... Nf6 fans enjoy facing the 4 Pawns attack best, since White gets so overextended, but I prefer this solid line building a nice center while displacing Black's KN over to b6. Here in the states, there is (was) a stock phrase for any opening regarding its ultimate soundness, those magical three words = "Fischer played it!" If he endorsed any line, it must be good, and even giving up the valuable KB to boot (... Nb4 & ... Nxd3) in some of his AD games. But I need much more experience against it. Later!
