Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-21-05  Runemaster: Ulf made this look very easy; he didn't seem to do much except keep control of the 'd' file when the rooks were on the board.
Mar-21-05  Knezh: Actually, the queen endgame circa. move 40 requires much calculation to avoid perpetual.

  Mateo: Maybe because of time trouble Christiansen did not play a variation which gave him good prospects of a draw. Instead of 37. e4 (?), he should have played 37. Qc8 Kh7 38. Qf5 Kg8 39. Qe6 Kf8 40. Qf5 Ke7 41. Qe5.

Now after 37. e4, actually played, 37... a5 38. Qc8 Kh7 39. Qf5 Kg8 40. Qe6 Kf8 41. Qe5 Ke7 42. Qe5 Kd8, if 43. Qg7 Qe4 with check. That's the difference.

54... Kb3 is questionable (maybe stronger is 54... Kb5). It seems that 55. Qe3 would give Black a hard task. Tehre are many variations and it is difficult to find a way to get the Black King out of the checks.

If 58. Qb7 Kc3 59. Qa6 Qc4 60. Qa3 (60. Qf6 Kc2 61. Qf5 Kb3, Black wins) Kc2 61. h6 Qf1, Black wins.

Mateo: Long analysis, wrong analysis. 47.Qf8! seems to hold.
