MissScarlett: Louis van Vliet in the <Hereford Times> of January 28th 1899, p.3, dubs this <A brilliant game, played by Mr. Blackburne, a short time since, in a simultaneous exhibition at Manchester.>

The opponent is unnamed, so I don't know where <Benfy> comes from. There was an <M Benfey> on the Manchester chess scene during the 1890s. Very likely <Moritz Benfey>, a German described as a <chemical merchant> in Manchester trade directories of the period.

Harding mentions arrangements for a simultaneous by Blackburne at the Manchester CC on November 23rd 1898.
