Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-15-04  Jesuitic Calvinist: I like it - Botty makes winning look very easy here.
Jul-20-06  Gouki: Kholmov gets outplayed here as Botvinnik opens up the position for his bishops, then exchanging them and finally bringing in his king to win blacks pawns. Thus, taking the initiave as black is left to defend every incoming threat that white throws at him.

Richard Taylor: The ending from this is in Barden's book of endgames as an example of how even with = material there are winning chances if the K is well placed (in NvN endings.) Botvinnik deliberately exchanged Qs to reach a favorable ending and moved his K quickly into the middle. But I think Black could have drawn with careful play.

But Botvinnik deliberately weakened Black's pawns (he felt it was = until Kholmov's h5, which he said was an error) then he tried to get to a knight v knight ending. It involved some quite subtle play by Botvinnik.

The move f3 later in the game and possible N sac by Black on g3 had to be watched out for.

Jan-11-24  mcgee: Doesn't Black have a draw with 45..Nd6+? Botvinnik doesn't mention it in his annotations, but after, for example, 46 Kd5 Nc4 47 f4 Ne3+! 48 Ke4 Nf1 49 Kf3 Nh2 50 Kg2 Ng4 51 Ne5 Nf6! I'm not sure where the win is
