woldsmandriffield: An interesting ending. What was White's losing move? Bronstein and Lepeshkin thought it was 48 Ke5 and claim a draw with 48 Kd5. But in fact the mistake was 50 Kc4? (50 Kd4) as now Podgaets could have won by centralising his Rook: 50..Re5!

In the game, Black played the inferior 50..Re8. Bronstein slipped again with 52 Nd6? and Podgaets repaid the favour with 55..Kb6? (55..Rf1!) - a mistake he was allowed to correct on move 57. Instead, there was an immediate draw with 57 b6+! Kxb6 58 Ng3 Re5+ 59 Kf4 winning the f-pawn.

Also in the game, after 57..Rf1, Bronstein moved his King towards the b-pawn and Podgaets closed out the win elegantly. The players thought White could have resisted better by going for the f-pawn; hence, 58 Ke3 was suggested as an improvement. However, Black then wins by 58..Kd7 59 Ke2 Rf5 60 Ke3 Ke6 61 Nc3 Re5+ 62 Kf3 Rc5.

50 Kd4! as actually played was the only move. 52 Nd6? lost for the reason stated.
