Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-17-07  ToTheDeath: White should not have resigned here!

34. Bc4 Qb6+ 35.Kh2 Nxe4+ 36. g3 Nxg3 37. Bxf7+ Kh8 38. Kg2 Qa6 39. Rc4 would keep him alive.

Jun-26-13  Everett: < ToTheDeath: White should not have resigned here! 34. Bc4 Qb6+ 35.Kh2 Nxe4+ 36. g3 Nxg3 37. Bxf7+ Kh8 38. Kg2 Qa6 39. Rc4 would keep him alive.>

Interesting line, but Black is still on top at the end of it, though perhaps not outright winning. There seems to be a good improvement for Black, after <34. Bc4 Qb6+ 35.Kh2 comes g6!> giving luft and asking White how he will patch the holes in his position. Importantly, White no longer has a favorable Bxf7+. One line runs, after <35...g6 36.Qb5 Qe3 37.Qb3 Nxe4+ 38.g3 Nxg3 39.Qxe3 Nf1+ and 40...Nxe3> with Black up a pawn and much more harmony than White.

Jun-26-13  Everett: Bronstein is so slick, already pitching a pawn for freer play <see moves 17 and 18>, he bangs out 21...Qe6 and then 22..a4! The amount of havoc this little pawn sac provokes is impressive. It is beautiful to see the Q influencing diagonally to the K and vertically to the B from the a-file.

The weakness on f2, and the surrounding dark squares gives Bronstein more than enough play for the two pawns,

A genius at work.
